Growing up in Malibu, California, she began learning the violin at the age of four and left regular school five years later with the goal of becoming a world-class violinist; she practiced eight or nine hours a day and read a wide range of literature. Progressing to writing her own music, she studied under various teachers and went to Indiana University, which she left over issues regarding the relationship between classical music and the appearance of the performer. Through her own independent label Traitor Records, Autumn debuted with her classical album On a Day: Music for Violin & Continuo, followed by the release in 2003 of her album Enchant.
She appeared in singer Courtney Love's backing band on her 2004 America's Sweetheart tour and returned to Europe. She released the 2006 album Opheliac with the German label Trisol Music Group. In 2007, she released Laced/Unlaced; the re-release of On a Day... appeared as Laced with songs on the electric violin as Unlaced. She later left Trisol to join New York-based The End Records in 2009 and release Opheliac in the United States, where previously it had only been available as an import. Currently she is on tour to promote her newest album Fight Like A Girl. She played the role of Painted Doll in Darren Lynn Bousman's 2012 film The Devil's Carnival.
Strange
Emilie Autumn Lyrics

How strange, how strange
'Cause you know what they say
About the visions in your head and what they mean
How strange, how strange
That you should feel that way
I'm not living in an ordinary world
And I don't believe in playing like I know that game
You're not heading for an ordinary love
'Cause I'm not the one that you should think of
And I'm not a prize that you can claim
You know I think it's strange
Just a little bit deranged
That you think I'm gonna change to make you happy
If you can tell me why
I should wait around then I
May be coming down
But until then this means
You can see me in your dreams
When you are sleeping do you
When you are sleeping do you
When you are sleeping do you dream
How strange
I'm more than happy in my candlelight
How strange, how strange
That you should come to my dominion
In the middle of the darkest night
How strange, how strange
That you should even try
I'm not living in an ordinary world
'Cause I'm not your ordinary good girl
And I don't believe in playing like I know that game
You're not heading for an ordinary love
'Cause I'm not the one that you should think of
And I'm not a prize that you can claim
You know I think it's strange
Just a little bit deranged
That you think I'm gonna change to make you happy
If you can tell me why
I should wait around then I
May be coming down
But until then this means
You can see me in your dreams
Just a little bit deranged
That you think I'm gonna change to make you happy
If you can tell me why
I should wait around then I
May be coming down
But until then this means
You can see me
Supernatural, yes it's true
Tell me what are you gonna do
About this love
Are you strong enough
To love me for the way I am
I don't think you understand
That you can't hold me in your hand
If you want me
You had better find a way to show me
But don't you think you know me
'Cause I'm not looking for a boy to call my own
I'll do just fine alone
You know I think it's strange
Just a little bit deranged
That you think I'm gonna change to make you happy
If you can tell me why
I should wait around then I
May be coming down
But until then this means
You can see me in your dreams
You know I think it's strange
That you think I'm gonna change to make you happy
If you can tell me why
I should wait around then I
May be coming down
But until then this means
You can see me in your dreams
I don't come when you call
I don't try to be nice
I don't care after all
I don't take your advice
I don't answer your prayers
I don't do as you say
Love if you really care
You'd better find another way
You know I think it's strange
That you think I'm gonna change to make you happy
If you can tell me why
I should wait around then I
May be coming down
But until then this means
You can see me in your dreams
When you are sleeping do you
When you are sleeping do you
When you are sleeping do you dream
The song "Strange" by Emilie Autumn is about a woman who is not interested in conforming to society's expectations or in being objectified by a man. The lyrics reflect the woman's independence and her lack of interest in pleasing her partner. The song opens with the question of whether the man dreams of the woman, which is followed by a pointed jab about the meaning of dreams. She then states that she is not an ordinary woman or an ordinary good girl and that she does not play games. She asserts that the man is not heading for an ordinary love and that he cannot claim her as a prize.
Throughout the song, the woman challenges the man's assumptions about her and their relationship. She criticizes him for thinking that she will change for him and for not understanding that he cannot possess her. She rejects his attempts to control her and warns him that he must find a way to love her for who she is if he wants to be with her. The song closes with a repetition of the question about whether the man dreams of the woman.
Overall, "Strange" is an empowering song that encourages women to reject the expectations placed on them by society and to stand up for their independence and autonomy.
