Melancholia
Emilie Nicolas Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I went into the woods
Got lost again
Though I knew he liked the back of my hand
I didnt wanna leave, go back again
Drive my body down the same old path as them
I found a perfect spot to lay
Free my head from a ponytail
I imagine how the earth would slowly cover me
Could it be your home for a deer or two (a deer or two)
Let me lie here til' the sun dies
Let me lie here til' the sun dies
Let me lie here til' the sun dies
Let me lie here til' the sun dies
Til' the sun dies, til' the sun dies
When there's no part left of me
I hope my ghost would have eyes to see
I'll stick around for a billion years
Til' the sun finally gets me
Finally gets me
Finally gets me
Lie here til' the sun dies
Lie here til' the sun dies
Dies
Dies

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Emilie Nicolas's song Melancholia speak of the desire to escape from the mundanity and repetition of everyday life. The singer of the song goes into the woods, seeking solace and perhaps some kind of spiritual reconnection with nature. The phrase "got lost again" could indicate a feeling of being lost in life, of not knowing where to go or what to do. The next line, "though I knew he liked the back of my hand", suggests that the singer is not alone, that there is someone who knows her well and perhaps even cares for her. However, she chooses to go into the woods alone, to be with herself and her thoughts.

The next few lines of the song speak of a desire to stay in the woods, to find a place to rest and let go of the burdens of life. The phrase "drive my body down the same old path as them" could suggest a feeling of being stuck in a rut, of following the same routine as everyone else. The singer finds a "perfect spot to lay" and imagines the earth slowly covering her, creating a home for a deer or two. There is a sense of peace and freedom in this imagined scenario, a release from the constraints of modern life.

The final section of the song speaks of the singer's desire to be remembered, to leave a lasting impact on the world. She hopes that her ghost will have eyes to see, that she will continue to exist in some form even after her physical body is gone. The repetition of the phrase "til' the sun dies" emphasizes the idea of eternity, of something enduring beyond the limits of time and space. Overall, the song is a powerful meditation on the human desire for connection, meaning, and transcendence.

Why Bother

So after 4.5 years of becoming an Emilie Stan... Spotify FINALLY released her first album. I'd been listening to Grown Up, Nobody Knows and Let You Out, but didn't really pick up on this track.

Now I'm mad at myself for being denied one of the heaviest fucking bass lines I've ever heard. Love it so much.

TH

Glad you finally got to listen to her first albumđŸ„°

Absolutely amazing ! Gorgeous performance (Emilie & her musicians) for a brilliant and enchanting song... - Like the 9 other wonderful "haunting electro-pop" tracks wich compose her first but stunning record, entitled "Like I'm a warrior".
This great  composer/singer comes from Norway but her father is french. (Emilie Nicolas est une chanteuse/compositrice norvégienne, mais son pÚre est français !).
Please, if you like it - and other Emilie's songs on YouTube or Deezer - spread her to your friends ! ;-))

People compliment an unpainted canvas saying it brings forth some unacknowledged emotions within them, a childhood trauma or whatever... My point revolves to the fact that people can feel something from anything, no matter how absurd or... whole.

Sometimes I feel a lot when listening to music. Some really appreciate the feelings they get from this song. Fortunately the artists continue to play.

Instruments are adventurous, vocals are temptuous, I am indeed able to dream.
