THE WORLD
Emily Bindiger Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
in your sweet insanity
all too calm, you hide yourself from reality
do you call it solitude? do you call it liberty?
when all the world turns away to leave you lonely
The fields are filled with desires
all voices crying for freedom
there's only you to answer you, forever
In blinded mind you are singing
a glorious hallelujah
the distant flutter of angels
they're all too far, too far to reach for you
I am here alone again
in my sweet serenity
hoping you will never find me in any place
I will call it solitude
when all my songs fade in vain
fly my voice, far away to eternity.
Emily Bindiger's song The World portrays a person, who is experiencing solitude from the world. The opening lines, "You are here alone again in your sweet insanity, all too calm, you hide yourself from reality" creates a melancholic tone. The phrase, "sweet insanity" paints a picture of the singer finding solace in their isolated thoughts, which could also be a form of madness. The lyrics suggest that the character is not comfortable with the external world, thereby creating a "calm" environment for themselves. However, this form of solace creates an emotional shift towards being lonely due to the lack of connection with the world. The character ponders if their withdrawal from society signifies liberation.
The second verse, "The fields are filled with desires, all voices crying for freedom, but all in vain, they will fade away, there's only you to answer you, forever" - indicates that there are other people who desire to break away from the outside world, but their cries go unheard. It suggests that they have not found the escape from reality that the singer has found in their solitude. The statement, "there's only you to answer you, forever" implies that the singer's decision was driven by long-term consequences that will come around to them. However, they don't regret their decisions.
The chorus of the song starts with, "In a blinded mind, you are singing a glorious hallelujah." This line creates a shift in the character's tone. They now sound happy, they appear to be celebrating their loneliness as a form of spiritual answer to the world. The next lines "The distant flutter of angels, they're all too far, too far to reach for you" suggest that they have an appreciation of beauty but lack the interaction with it. Although the tone of the song changes, its central idea remains the same.
