The lyrics of Emir Kusturica & Nele Karajlic's song Bubamara are in a Romani language known as Romani Balkan. The words of the song depict the story of Bubamara, a Romani woman who is able to charm a crowd and perform with her flute music. The song starts by saying that a Romani man (Sa romalen pucela) is calling out to Bubamara to play her music for the crowd to dance to (Bubamara sosi acela). It then goes on to say "Devla, Devla vacar le Bubamaru koka pocinel" which means "God, God let Bubamara play her music". As the music plays, the people start to dance and enjoy the music. The Romani man sings, "Ej romalen asunen, Ej cavoren gugle zuralen" which means "Oh fellow Roma, oh let's take the handkerchiefs out" which is a sign of joy.

As the song progresses, it talks about how Bubamara's music is so powerful that even the great Baro Grga, a wealthy Romani man, comes to listen to Bubamara's flute music (Bubamara cajori, Baro Grga vojsi odjili). The song repeats this story and ends with a repetition of the chorus "Djindji rindji Bubamaro, Cknije su ije, Ajde mori goj romesa" which translates to "Let's go dancing Bubamara, tonight is the night, Come on my Romani friends".
