She started her solo career in 1999 with a collaboration single along with Tin Tin Out for their single "What I Am", which peaked number 2 on the UK charts. Her debut solo album entitled "A Girl Like Me" was released in 2001, and spawned the UK number-one hit "What Took You So Long?", as well as the top five hits "What I Am" (a cover of a 1998's song earlier recorded by Edie Brickell & New Bohemians) and "Take My Breath Away" (which was not a cover of Berlin's 1986's hit), and top twenty hit "We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight". The album sold around 125,000 in the UK.
In spring of 2003, she returned as Emma (losing the Bunton), with the top five hit "Free Me" and later that year released "Maybe", which also went top ten and outsold the previous single. In spring of 2004, the single "I'll Be There" and the album "Free Me" were released. The album contained '60s-style pop gems and went on to outsell her first album, something other solo Spice Girls have yet to achieve. The album Free Me was released in the United States on January 25, 2005.
Emma released "Downtown" the official charity single for the BBC's 2006 Children in Need appeal, it reached number three. The album "Life in Mono" was released on (4 December).
He Loves Me Not

We kissed and never seemed to stop, ah-ah
The sun, the moon, the stars so bright
We danced until the morning light, ah-ah
So in love
Is a dream reality till you wake up
Oh seems to good to be true
He loves me, oh he loves me not
He loves me, oh he loves me not
He loves me, oh he loves me not
He loves me, oh he loves me not
I wish I knew, I knew, I knew
My perfect world is yesterday
Don't want this dream to fade away, yeah
Just take my hand and hold on tight
Let's fly together, side by side, yeah
So in love
Will I wait to feel the sweetness of your touch
Oh seems to good to be true
He loves me, oh he loves me not
He loves me, oh he loves me not
He loves me, oh he loves me not
He loves me, oh he loves me not
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah, If only I knew
Come what may
Never felt so close but yet so far away
Dreaming on until the day
He loves me, oh he loves me not
He loves me, oh he loves me not
He loves me, oh he loves me not
He loves me, oh he loves me not
The lyrics of Emma Bunton's song "He Loves Me Not" are about the uncertainty and confusion that comes with falling in love. The singer describes a perfect moment with her lover where they kiss, dance until morning and feel invincible. However, despite this, she remains unsure whether her lover truly loves her back, a feeling symbolized by the refrain "he loves me, he loves me not." The singer is caught between her perfect world and the reality of whether her lover loves her as much as she loves him.
The song's lyrics capture the hopeless romanticism that many people feel when they fall in love. The singer is in the grip of an all-consuming passion that she fears may turn out to be a dream. She wants to hold onto the perfect moment forever and never wake up to the reality that her lover may not reciprocate her love. The lyrics are a plea for certainty and assurance that the love she feels is real and not just a figment of her imagination.
Overall, "He Loves Me Not" is a song about the happiness and heartbreak of falling in love, its lyrics are an exploration of the extreme emotions that come with it, and the uncertainty that accompanies it.
