She started her solo career in 1999 with a collaboration single along with Tin Tin Out for their single "What I Am", which peaked number 2 on the UK charts. Her debut solo album entitled "A Girl Like Me" was released in 2001, and spawned the UK number-one hit "What Took You So Long?", as well as the top five hits "What I Am" (a cover of a 1998's song earlier recorded by Edie Brickell & New Bohemians) and "Take My Breath Away" (which was not a cover of Berlin's 1986's hit), and top twenty hit "We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight". The album sold around 125,000 in the UK.
In spring of 2003, she returned as Emma (losing the Bunton), with the top five hit "Free Me" and later that year released "Maybe", which also went top ten and outsold the previous single. In spring of 2004, the single "I'll Be There" and the album "Free Me" were released. The album contained '60s-style pop gems and went on to outsell her first album, something other solo Spice Girls have yet to achieve. The album Free Me was released in the United States on January 25, 2005.
Emma released "Downtown" the official charity single for the BBC's 2006 Children in Need appeal, it reached number three. The album "Life in Mono" was released on (4 December).
I Wasn't Looking

Never watch and wait
When the pressures on
You know it won't find you
Fate is shy
When you seek it hides
When you're looking left
It'll creep up on the right
That all the tales were true
You came without a warning
Nor a clue
[Chorus]
Wasn't looking when I found love
Yeah it took me by suprise
I Wasn't looking when you showed up
Now you're all I see
I Wasn't looking you took my hand
The way it should be
I Wasn't looking when I found love
And its beautiful
Bide your time
No don't in line
Cause the trouble is
It'll never come your way
Funny how
When you hunt them down
There's a drought
And if you don't
It rains all day
Cause no matter what you do
It'll end up finding you
And hits you like a boat out of the blue
[Chorus]
So I found out for myself
That all the tales were true
It came without a warning
Nor a clue
Na na na da da,
Da da da da da da
Da da da da da da
[Chorus 2x]
The lyrics of Emma Bunton's song "I Wasn't Looking" talks about the idea of not actively searching for love, but rather letting love find you unexpectedly. The first verse talks about the popular notion that you should never watch and wait for love, but instead, let it come to you. The second verse emphasizes how when you actively seek out love, it tends to elude you. The chorus elaborates on the sentiment by describing the beauty of finding love when you least expect it. The bridge also reinforces the idea of letting fate take its course and not worrying about trying to find love.
Overall, the song encourages listeners to trust in the process of finding love and believing that it will come at the right time. It also emphasizes the beauty of love and how it can surprise us in unexpected moments of our lives.
