She started her solo career in 1999 with a collaboration single along with Tin Tin Out for their single "What I Am", which peaked number 2 on the UK charts. Her debut solo album entitled "A Girl Like Me" was released in 2001, and spawned the UK number-one hit "What Took You So Long?", as well as the top five hits "What I Am" (a cover of a 1998's song earlier recorded by Edie Brickell & New Bohemians) and "Take My Breath Away" (which was not a cover of Berlin's 1986's hit), and top twenty hit "We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight". The album sold around 125,000 in the UK.
In spring of 2003, she returned as Emma (losing the Bunton), with the top five hit "Free Me" and later that year released "Maybe", which also went top ten and outsold the previous single. In spring of 2004, the single "I'll Be There" and the album "Free Me" were released. The album contained '60s-style pop gems and went on to outsell her first album, something other solo Spice Girls have yet to achieve. The album Free Me was released in the United States on January 25, 2005.
Emma released "Downtown" the official charity single for the BBC's 2006 Children in Need appeal, it reached number three. The album "Life in Mono" was released on (4 December).
Perfect Strangers
Emma Bunton Lyrics

Caught in a circle,
Waiting for something,
Playing for time,
Day after day,
Everything perfect,
Perfectly normal,
In her life,
In the rush hour,
Busy dreamin' nothing,
Then everything changed,
She his face,
They fell in love,
With a danger,
Remember the place,
That was the day we were perfect strangers,
Remember the day we were perfect strangers,
He left on time,
But he's always rushin',
Its getting him somewhere,
Nowhere fast,
No one to leave,
No one to get over,
There's something missing,
In his life,
On the right train,
Going no name,
Looks up moment,
Then everything changed,
He saw her face,
They fell in love,
With a danger,
Remember the place,
That was the day we were perfect strangers,
Remember the day we were perfect strangers,
Ba da da da,
Bah ah ah ah ah,
Ba da da da,
Ba da da da,
Bah ah ah ah ah,
Ba da da da,
On the wrong train,
In the rush hour,
Busy dreamin' nothin',
Then everything changed,
I saw your face,
We fell in love,
With a danger,
Remember the place,
That was the day we were perfect strangers,
Remember the day,
I saw your face,
That was the day we were perfect strangers [Repeat x3]
The lyrics of Emma Bunton's song Perfect Strangers depict a story of two strangers who found love unexpectedly. The opening lyrics describe the life of a girl caught in a monotonous routine, waiting for something to change. She is on the wrong train during rush hour, with nothing to do but daydream. Then everything suddenly changes when she meets someone special.
The story then switches to the perspective of a man who seems to be living a hectic life, always in a rush and going somewhere fast without any purpose. He is going nowhere while missing something in his life. He's finally on the right train, going no name until he looks up and sees her face. Like the girl he fell in love with, he also experiences a sudden change in his life.
In the chorus, Bunton repeats "Remember the day we were perfect strangers," reminding listeners that these two people once didn't know each other and found love in a situation they least expected.
Overall, the song is about taking chances, getting on the wrong train or the right train, and seizing opportunities when they arise.
