Colours
Emma Hewitt - Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If you had this time again
Would you do it all the same?
I wonder, would I?
Of the promises we made
Is there anything you'd change?
In the re-runs of our lives

If I could call you for a day
Just to hear the words you'd say
I would

All the colors that you bring
All come rushing back again
All the places that we've been this time

All the people that you knew
They'll come running back to you
All the faces that we've seen in this life

And we never took the time
To see where we were going
We were only passing by
And we never questioned why
The river keeps on flowing
The beauty of the ride

If I could call you for a day
Just to hear the words you'd say
I would

All the colors that you bring
All come rushing back again
All the places that we've been this time

All the people that you knew
They'll come running back to you
All the faces that we've seen in this life

The river flows

All the colors that you bring
Will they ever come again?
All the places that we've been this time

All the people that you knew
They'll be waiting there for you
All the faces that we've seen in this life

All the colors that you bring
All we ever want to be
All the places that you've dreamed this time

All the people that you knew

They'll come running back to you
All the faces that we've seen in this life

Overall Meaning

The song Colours by Emma Hewitt is a reflective and nostalgic piece that explores the idea of reflection and whether people would do things the same if given the chance to live their lives again. The opening lines of the song ask if people would do things the same if given the opportunity to go back in time. The lyrics suggest that people often take life for granted and do not fully appreciate the people and places they encounter. The singer is wondering if she would change anything in her life and whether the promises she made would still hold true.

The chorus of the song repeats the line "all the colors that you bring" and these words seem to be a metaphor for the experiences and emotions that people bring into each other's lives. The singer reflects on how these "colours" rush back into her life, as she remembers all the places she's been and all the people she's met. She acknowledges that the beauty of life lies in the journey rather than the destination and that it's important to take the time to appreciate the people and experiences that make our lives worth living. The lyrics are accompanied by a driving drumbeat and soaring vocals that add to the emotional impact of the song.

Everytime I hear this I think of my dad . He passed away from brain cancer in 2013. He was a Vietnam veteran and lived a hard life starting at age 10. As I look back he always smiled and never was bitter to anyone. What an icon.

Moving song. Per Emma ”Colours was written by my brother and I about the passing of our Grandfather, and wondering what we will all think about in those last moments. Who and what we will remember when we look back on it all, and will we ever see all of those familiar faces again? So this song is quite a personal and introspective one, although it is not so much a sad song, there is still hope and a strong sense of gratitude for the experiences. We wanted to convey the beauty in the passing nature of life."
