1) Emmi Kangasj… Read Full Bio ↴There is more than one artist sharing the name Emmi;
1) Emmi Kangasjärvi is a Finnish singer-songwriter who sings in English. She was born on October 10, 1979 in Vilppula, Finland. She became famous thanks to her single Breakable, which was released in February 2001. In May 2001 her second single Crashing Down and her debut album Solitary Motions were released. Two other quite well known songs from that album are Green Car and Solitary Motions. She was nominated as the Best Nordic Act by MTV Europe Music Awards in 2001. However, the award was won by the Danish band Safri Duo.
There are two versions of Emmi's second album No Nothing. The first one was released only for Finnish market in October 2002. The second one was released for international as well as Finnish market in early 2003. The differences between the versions are the order of songs and the fact that the second version contains two tracks that are not contained in the first version, namely Into The World and World Is Crazy. Conversely, the song Toss Me Down is contained in the first version but not in the second one.
The single Eileen was released in 2005. On October 5, 2005, Emmi's third album Can Full of Joy was released.
2) Emily Joy Green, known by her stage name Emmi, is a British-Australian singer and songwriter.
Emily Green was born in Torquay, Devon, England, the middle child of an older brother and a younger sister. The daughter of a pilot, she travelled extensively as a very young child, living in far flung places such as Papua New Guinea and Alice Springs. Moving school nine times before settling in Perth, Australia, Emmi got used to feeling like the outsider and began to focus on her love of dancing, and left home at the age of 16 to study dance full-time in Sydney.
Green began her musical career after being signed to a music publisher in Australia, writing songs for Neil Davidge of Massive Attack and Little Nikki.
Green cites classical music, jazz and Shirley Temple movies as her influences.
Dust
Emmi Lyrics

What would we hear it say?
before it's brushed aside
Just as it's swept away
It's just the evidence
It's of no consequence
It's only flesh and bone
If dust could only gather into lines of chalk
Around a silhouette detective fiction walks
For it's the only witness that can testify
Can I spit out the truth
Or would you rather just swallow a lie?
Why did they dam the land?
How did they flood the plain?
Did they erase the name?
And wipe away the stain
You kept your mouth well shut
Appeared to turn your coat
Now there's a name for you but it's stuck in my throat
If dust could only mutter
Or in laughter trill
If it could warn and whisper from the windowsill
For it's the only witness that can testify
Can I spit out the truth?
Or would you rather just swallow a lie?
Here comes the juggernaut
Here come The Poisoners
They choke the life and land
And rob the joy from us
Why do they taste of sugar
When they are made of money
Here come the Lamb of God
And the butcher's boy, Sonny
If dust could only gather in a needle track
Then it would skip a beat and it would jump right back
If dust could only gather in a needle track
Then it would skip a beat
And all the sense I lack
In Emmi's song "Dust", the lyrics explore the idea of the value and role of dust. If dust could talk, what stories or information would it reveal? The lyrics suggest that dust is often dismissed and ignored, despite potentially holding important evidence or truths. The repetition of "Can I spit out the truth? Or would you rather just swallow a lie?" emphasizes this theme of seeking truth versus settling for falsehoods.
The second half of the song shifts focus to societal issues, such as environmental damage and greed. The lines "Why did they dam the land? How did they flood the plain? Did they erase the name? And wipe away the stain" allude to the destructive actions of humans that have often been covered up or ignored. The contrast between the "Poisoners" and the "Lamb of God" suggests a critique of those who prioritize money and power over ethical behavior.
Overall, the lyrics of "Dust" highlight the idea that even the smallest and seemingly insignificant things, like dust, can hold important truths and observations about the world around us.
