Stepping into a new realm sonically, Emmy's grunge punk past fronting rock trio VELTA still lingers in this emotional pop outfit produced by Tomek Miernowski (Darren Criss, Mos Def, Outasight). Starting with "Chick Chick Boom", Wildwood and Miernowski have crafted an array of dream pop heavy hitters for Emmy Wildwood's first solo album due out in September - all built around a 70's Linn drum Machine and lo-fi electric guitar demos cut by Wildwood herself. Seamlessly, deep chord progressions and bright vintage synth hooks bridge the gaps on each arrangement.
The first single "Chick Chick Boom (Tired of Love)", is described as a cross between Robyn's "Dancing On My Own", and Stevie Nicks singing over Prince's "When You Were Mine," off his Dirty Minds LP. Vocally, Wildwood charges each song forward with a fully developed croon that's all her own- setting her apart from the rest of today's pop princesses. Her rich dynamics in warmth and vulnerability showcase themselves in her delivery as often as her bright powerful belt does, which is indicative of the wounded place from which it was evoked. Wildwood also further accents her lead vocal with a set of beach boys-esque male back up singers, who help lift these melodies to the next level sonically. She will make her solo debut July 20th at The Bowery Electric in NYC, where she will unleash the breadth of her creative pop anthems to the masses.
Also the founder of Tiger Blanket Records, a small record label and vintage store based in Williamsburg Brooklyn, Wildwood has been revered for her music, fashion and business sense. Time Out New York named the songstress New York's most fashionable of 2013 and was applauded for her work as a leader in the musical community, hosting monthly showcases under the label name for unsigned Brooklyn bands and printing limited runs of 7 inch vinyls free of cost to associated artists.
Scream
Emmy Wildwood Lyrics

You cut so deep
A garnet red
Drip from my lip
Shallow scars, Have healed so far
From every dream
I wake up and I
Night terrors, A constant rush
A wicked crush, Oh merry dreadful
Looming night, Be gone, Be quiet
Oh please disist
Can't you resist me?
Scream
I want you, I need you
I'll never release you
I'm vying, You're dying
No one will hear you crying
The lyrics to Emmy Wildwood’s song “Scream” entail a tumultuous and emotional night’s sleep. The first few lines describe a physically painful dream that has left the singer with an injury that they have likened to a “garnet red” that drips from their lips. Despite the wounds being relatively shallow, they have healed far enough for the individual to move on from them. However, they continue to experience night terrors, which they describe as a “constant rush” and a “wicked crush” that leave them screaming. The singer begs for the terrifying and looming night to be gone, but it continues to persist, deaf to their pleas. The lyrics end with the individual expressing their need for the night terrors, insinuating that they are struggling with something larger that they are not ready to let go of.
The lyrics from this song highlight the struggle and pain that can accompany dreams and nightmares. Additionally, the song could be interpreted as a metaphor for a larger struggle, one that is equally as suffocating and painful as any strained relationship or emotional struggle. In essence, Wildwood captures a feeling that is not only universally relatable but also addresses a larger, abstract concept.
