The Eruption
Emperor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And after years in dark tunnels
He came to silence

There was nothing

He realized that the cheering cries of worship
Were but echoes of his harsh outspoken word
Reflecting back at him from cold and naked walls
In hollow circles fled illusions of wisdom he had heard

From nothing came all I ever knew

And he beheld the ruins
Of an empire torn apart
Yet, no grief nor rage did bind him
Just silent and bewildered
By the emptiness
He stumbled off his throne

Suddenly, the walls around him cracked wide open
And an endless void appeared in flickering, grey light
What force, but silence, has deprived me of my coil?
No trail to guide me, no point of reference in sight

By nothing, resurrection will be pure

And he beheld the ruins
Of an empire torn apart
Wiping dust off his shoulders
Just silent now
In this emptiness
Leaving all behind

Step by step
Past all past
Slowly he approached the surface
Nothing left

To sacrifice
The mirrors mocked him on the way

ZACK COFFMAN

To this day no one has come even close to touching emperors compositions

Mario Croatia

Dissection-they were much better- after them in black metal Immortal, Emperor, Windir, Watain,Enslaved...

ktompa77

Universal truth.

Jose Ribeiro

I agree with you, if you are talking about the black metal world.

svartiske

Yeah, I tried to grab the CD off my desk, but changed my mind at the last second.

Zyborggian

ZACK COFFMAN I'd argue Hannes Grossmann has come close to nailing something as strong and unique as what's presented here at a few points, but yeah for sure almost nobody can touch what Prometheus brought to the table. Unprecedented masterpiece.

Chuck Globus

I remembered this album getting so much hate when it came out. I loved it the first time I heard it. 10/10

Elvar Bragason

Yeah i know! but i think this is emperors best work even better then the older cult classics like Nightside eclipse

Space Gent

I never paid attention except the music. What was their issue? I can't imagine being incapable of loving this album.

JediNxf7

I remember the people who hated on it being edgelord twats and wannabe neonazis. anyone who listened to metal for the music and not because they thought their dick looked less tiny in leather heard a masterpiece the second this came out.
