Old Flavours
Empire of the Sun Lyrics

Walking on the golden line
My body's never been so light
Must have been the first time
For the longest time
Walking on the golden line
My body's never been so high
For the longest time
Walking on the golden line
My body's never been so high
Must have been the first time
The lyrics of Empire of the Sun's song "Old Flavours" can be interpreted in various ways, but one possibility is that they describe a moment of euphoria experienced by the singer. He talks about walking on a "golden line" and feeling light and high, as if he had never felt that way before. He repeats this experience three times, suggesting that it was profound and memorable.
The metaphor of the "golden line" is intriguing, as it can have multiple meanings. It could refer to a literal golden line on the ground, perhaps marking a special path or journey. Alternatively, it could be a symbol of success, achievement, or enlightenment, a line that separates the mundane from the extraordinary. The repetition of the phrase "for the longest time" emphasizes the duration and intensity of this experience, implying that it was a rare and precious moment in the singer's life.
Overall, "Old Flavours" is a dreamy, nostalgic song that blends electronic and acoustic elements to create a dreamlike atmosphere. The lyrics add to this feeling of bittersweet longing, and the repeated verses create a sense of ritual and ceremony.

Oh, come on. This is a pure-pop confectionary! Every once in a while, a band will pop through with nothing but a pop record. It works.
