Anything Goes
End of Fashion Lyrics

It's a mystery in there
There's a note you carry
Living holy, so no one knows me
I'm the ghost at your side
It's your conscience you hide
Lying long in the heat
It's not too hard
Anything goes
Anything goes in loving war
You should've seen what
We were like before
Doesn't make you feel good
Living holy, so no one knows me
It's not too hard
Anything goes now
Anything goes now
But it makes me cry
I've seen the truth through your eyes
There's a song I'll sing
If I'm allowed
All this fucked up shit
You've been talking about
Well I'm trying,
But not too hard
Anything goes
Come on!
It's not too hard,
Anything goes
Anything goes
Anything goes now
Anything goes
And I said ooohhh
The lyrics to End of Fashion's song "Anything Goes" suggest an internal struggle with one's true identity and the façade they present to the world. The first stanza describes a hidden song and a concealed note that the singer carries, while remaining unnoticed by the world. The reference to living "holy" suggests that this song represents a sacred and personal part of the singer's identity which they guard closely from others. However, despite their efforts to hide it, they remain as a "ghost at your side" or as the voice of their conscience.
The chorus blends with a tone of rebellion and a disillusionment with the world's expectations: "It's not too hard / Anything goes / Anything goes in loving war / You should've seen what / We were like before. The singer suggests that social norms and expectations are loosely held and that anything is acceptable in the pursuit of love. Previously, the singer and their peers may have acted differently, before the world cast expectations upon them. The lyrics are an appeal to reject societal pressures in order to live honestly and truly.
Despite the overarching theme of rebellion and self-discovery, there is an underlying vulnerability to the lyrics. The line "But it makes me cry / I've seen the truth through your eyes" reflects the singer's emotional state. They may be simultaneously fearful of and longing for a deeper connection with the world, expressing this through music with "a song I'll sing / If I'm allowed." Ultimately, despite the struggles and hardships, they persevere with defiance, stating "Well, I'm trying, / But not too hard / Anything goes."
