Immunity
Endeavor Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In Endeavor's song Immunity, the lyrics address a critical issue of corporations manufacturing products that have devastating effects on people and society as a whole. The lines "Show us those with the immunity to prosecution for taking millions of lives" is an indictment of the justice system, which seems to protect the companies responsible for the damages done. The lyrics go further to say that these corporations have developed people into "addicted slaves" with the products they sell. Addiction creates loyalty, which eventually keeps the customers coming back, keeping the pockets of the company fat.
The songwriters highlight the perverse nature of capitalism, where corporations put profit above humanity, and greed is always emphasized. The corporations profit from the pain and dependency of people and keep the wheels of the industries running, with people trapped in a maze-like structure from which it seems hard to escape. The only way out is to avoid the whole scenario, not to buy what they sell. However, the sad truth remains: capitalism denies humanity, justifies the lives lost and gives companies cause to take more. In essence, the song presents a scathing commentary on the workings of the contemporary capitalist economic system.
