History
Endless Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A stone arises slowly from a rock
Cold and grey
Stones wear down to a sand with time
Cold and grey
The sand falls through the fisted palm
Which only dust remains on
The dust catches the sweat
From the other palm
Cold and grey

In the crowd where
The single one is useless

Hard as stone
From the crowd of individuals

Where everybody's a king

A grip of dust covered palms
A mound of stones hard as a rock
A grip of dust covered palms

How many people touch in the crowd
Do you think?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of History by Endless, are thought-provoking in nature. The opening lines, "A stone arises slowly from a rock, Cold and grey" can be interpreted as a metaphor for life, which slowly emerges from the darkness, as a rough and unpolished rock. But, as time passes, life begins to take its form and like the stone, it too wears down to a sand with time. Eventually, everything comes to an end and what remains is just the dust. The singer is trying to convey that just like the stone, every human being has a story to tell, and as they grow older, their story becomes more refined and complete.

The phrase "In the crowd where the single one is useless", is symbolic of the feeling of loneliness that one can feel even when surrounded by others. The singer talks about how everyone in the crowd is like a king, the phrase "Hard as stone" reinforces this idea. But amidst this, the individual's identity gets lost, and in the end, everyone turns into dust. These lyrics are a powerful reminder of the temporariness of life and how one should cherish every moment before everything turns to sand.

When I take the truth
When I take the dream
Sora o someru asayake
(The dawn, painting the sky.)
Make me try again
Make me fly again
Tooi toki no tabibito
(A traveler from a distant age.)

Kaze no naka ni ukabiagaru megami yo
Maboroshi de mo sore wa shinjitsu no yasuragi darou
(You goddesses, who float on the winds!
You may be an illusion, but this peace is real.)

Oikakete kizutsuite
Inochi kakete tsukanda
(Wounded, I set out in chase,
Risking my life for that which I desired.)

Hito wa itsumo yume no tame ni shineru yo
Kizudarake no ude no naka ni ima ai o kanjiru
(People are always ready to die for their dreams.
Now, in your wounded arms, I feel love.)

Yomigaeru kioku no chihei ni
Atarashii rekishi o kizamu
(In this field of resurrected memories,
I shall rewrite history.)

Kaze no naka ni ukabiagaru megami yo
Maboroshi de mo sore wa eien no yasuragi darou
(You goddesses, who float on the winds!
You may be an illusion, but this peace is eternal.)

Hito wa itsumo yume no tame ni ikiteru

Kizudarake no ude no naka ni ima ai o kanjiru
(People are always living for their dreams
Now, in your wounded arms, I feel love.)

When I take the truth ?
When I take the dream ?

Make me try again .
Make me fly again .

When I take the truth

When I take the dream

Make me try again

Make me fly again
