Intro
Enemies Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm not going to lie and act like
I have always thought
All Hip-Hop or Rap was the world's greatest thing
But Public Enemy
Made me realized
That all Rap is not the same
They made the world listen
They articulated the frustrations and anger
Of the Black Community, more importantly;
They changed the perception of what Hip-Hop could be

Chuck D said, that Rap was the CNN of the Black Community
And no one broadcasted louder, than Public Enemy

Overall Meaning

The above lyrics from the song "Intro" by Enemies pay tribute to the legendary Hip-Hop group Public Enemy. The singer admits that they were not always a fan of Hip-Hop or Rap but Public Enemy changed their perception of the genre. Public Enemy was known for their politically charged lyrics and their ability to articulate the frustrations and anger of the Black community. They were able to make the world stop and listen to their message. Chuck D once famously compared Rap to the CNN of the Black community, and Public Enemy was the loudest voice in that broadcast.

I like how all lyrics represent a character.
Jayce: "I wake up to the sounds of the silence that allows"
Viktor: "For my mind to run around with my ear up to the ground"
Caitlyn: "I'm searching to behold the stories that are told"
Heimerdinger: "When my back is to the world that was smiling when I turned"
Mel and Vander: "Tell you you're the greatest"
Silco: "But once you turn they hate us"
Ekko: "Oh, the misery. Everybody wants to be my enemy"
Vi and Jinx: "Pray it away, I swear. I'll never be a saint, no way"

ThePrequel’sWereGood

I wake up to the sounds of the silence that allows
For my mind to run around with my ear up to the ground
I'm searching to behold the stories that are told
When my back is to the world that was smiling when I turned

Tell you you're the greatest
But once you turn they hate us

(Ah) Oh, the misery
Everybody wants to be my enemy
(Ah) Spare the sympathy
Everybody wants to be my enemy

Pray it away, I swear
I'll never be a saint, no way
My enemy
Pray it away, I swear
I'll never be a saint
(Look out for yourself)

Tealicious Thoughts

I love how this intro is full of foreshadowing without giving away too much. I especially love the foreshadowing at 0:44

[SPOILER AHEAD]

The “spare the sympathy” depicts Victor when he augmented himself for the first time. Despite dying because of a terminal illness, he decided to take control of his own life. Which is why he shouldn’t be pitied on at this part of the story.

The scene then switched to Jayce for the “my enemy” line which foreshadows their future relationship in the game.

The spare the sympathy line also pertains to Cait. This could be a foreshadowing to the final episode where because she sympathized with Vi’s pain on what happened to her sister, she hesitated, which enabled Jinx to overpower her. This of course allowed Jinx to do what she did in the finale. Basically, in regards to Jinx, Cait should have “spared the sympathy”.

mokiii

@Eliel Torres the original song is more punchy? i guess is a way to explain it- this one is more of an emotional version in a way.
