You're Not Alone
Enemy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't let the sun go down, On an Empire,
It's too much to waste. Don't let the walls come down,
Round an Empire, It's too much to wave goodbye.

We've been working for a long time,
We've been fighting for a way,
Now in the streets men standing in lines they're all wasted anyway.
You're living in an incestuous world,
Where you're conscious holds no weight,
You sold us down the river like rats then,
You drowned and beat the brave.

You're not alone you know, you're not alone you know
You're not alone no no.

Don't let the sun … too much to wash away.

We've been working for a long time,
We've been fighting for a way,
Now in the streets men standing in lines they're all wasted anyway.
You're living in an incestuous world,
Where you're conscious holds no weight,
You sold us down the river like rats then,
You drowned and beat the brave.

You're not alone you know, you're not alone you know
You're not alone no no. (yeah, yeah)
(Not alone, not alone)
There's just too many dreams in this wasteland for you to leave us all behind.
There's just too many dreams in this wasteland for you to leave us all behind.

(You're not alone no, no)

You're not alone you know, you're not alone you know (yeah, yeah)
You're not alone no no.

You're not alone you know, you're not alone you know
You're not alone no no.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Enemy's song, You're Not Alone, convey a feeling of hopelessness in a world that has been sold down the river by those in power. The chorus, "You're not alone, you know, you're not alone, no no" is a message of unity and solidarity in the face of a corrupt society. The opening lines, "Don't let the sun go down on an empire, it's too much to waste" can be interpreted as a warning to those in power not to let their greed and corruption destroy all that they have built. The line, "Don't let the walls come down, round an empire, it's too much to wave goodbye" can be seen as a plea to those in power to keep the status quo intact, no matter how corrupt it may be, because the alternative is worse.

In the second verse, the lyrics describe a society where the people have been oppressed and their consciousness has been ignored. They have been sold down the river by those in power and left to suffer in the streets. The lines, "You're living in an incestuous world, where your conscious holds no weight" suggest that those in power do not care about the people they are supposed to serve, but only about their own interests. The final lines of the song, "There's just too many dreams in this wasteland for you to leave us all behind" can be interpreted as a message of hope. Despite the corruption and oppression, there is still a flicker of hope in the hearts of the people.

Don't let the sun go down
on our empire
it's too much to waste
and don't let the walls
come down round our empire
it's too much to wave goodbye
we've been working for a long time
we've been fighting for a way
now in the streets men stand in lines
they're all wasted anyway
you live in an incestuous world
where your conscience holds no weight
you sold us down the river like rats
then you drowned and beat the brave

you're not alone, you know
you're not alone, you know
you're not alone at all
you're not alone, you know
you're not alone, you know
you're not alone at all

don't let the sun go down
on our empire
it's too much to waste
and don't let the rains come down,
on our empire
it's too much to wash away
we've been working for a long time
we've been fighting for a way
now in the streets men stand in lines
they're all wasted anyway
you live in an incestuous world
where your conscience holds no weight
you sold us down the river like rats
then you drowned and beat the brave

you're not alone, you know
you're not alone, you know
you're not alone at all
you're not alone, you know
you're not alone, you know
you're not alone at all

there's just too many dreams
in this wasteland
for you to leave us all behind
there's just too many dreams
in this wasteland
for you to leave us all behind

@braderley

November ‘22. Moved to the USA now and came here cos I hate how YouTube here is full of the US versions.

Had the pleasure of hosting these boys at a music festival in scunthorpe at a festival I organized with my friend called party in the pines.

Dream come true/ moment of my life considering I discovered them ten years before litter picking on a landfill site listening to radio 1 because I didn’t have anything else to earn.
I stood on stage with them while they played a greatest hit set at the back.

Or so I thought, somehow living in the USA about to get my green card.

Bit of positivity for the comment section. No matter your circumstances that one fkn chance can turn your life around. Don’t give up.
