Cry
Engelbert Humperdinck Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's no secret you will feel better if you cry
When waking from a bad dream
Don't you sometimes think it's real?
But it's only false emotions that you feel
And If your heartaches seem to hang around too long
And your blues getting bluer with each song
Girl remember sunshine can be found behind a cloudy sky
If your sweetheart sends a letter of goodbye
It's no secret you will feel better if you cry
Girl remember sunshine can be found behind a cloudy sky
So let your hair down and go on baby and cry
Go on, on, on, on, on, go on baby and cry
The lyrics of Engelbert's song Cry are a comforting message to someone who may be experiencing heartbreak. The song begins by acknowledging the sadness that comes with receiving a goodbye letter from a loved one. The lyrics suggest that crying is a natural and healthy way to cope with the pain, and that it can even bring relief. The song then goes on to explore the emotional complexities of bad dreams and false emotions, and encourages the listener to look for the sunny side of life, even in the midst of sadness.
In the chorus, the lyrics again emphasize the benefits of crying as a way to release pent-up emotions and feel better. However, the song also carries an encouraging tone, reminding the listener that there is still hope and happiness to be found. This message is reinforced in the final verse, in which the singer urges the listener to let their hair down and cry, but also to keep moving forward and not give up.
Overall, the lyrics of Cry are a thoughtful and compassionate offering of comfort to anyone going through a difficult time. The message is clear: it's okay to feel sad, but it's important to keep looking for the good things in life and to keep moving forward.
