Too Beautiful
Engelbert Humperdinck Lyrics

Those moments warm and tender
Was it to beautiful to last?
The love we shared together
The dreams we dared together
Was it to beautiful to last?
Walking hand in hand
Were dreaming of a land
Where love reposes
But castles made of sand
Like winter roses
Are fated to die
My darling, like you and I
My darling...
Where are those sweet Septembers
The joy my heart remembers?
Lost in the shadows of the past
The rainbow watched above you
The sacred words, I love you
Why did the dream go by so fast?
Walking hand in hand
The dawn discloses we
Were dreaming of a land
Where love reposes
But castles made of sand
Like winter roses
Are fated to die
My darling, like you and I
My darling...
Where are those sweet Septembers
The joy my heart remembers?
Lost in the shadows of the past
The rainbow watched above you
The sacred words, I love you
Why did that dream go by so fast?
Was it to beautiful...
Was it to beautiful to last?
The lyrics of Engelbert Humperdinck's "Too Beautiful" depict a reminiscence of the joys shared by two people who were deeply in love. The perfect days of autumn, the warmth and tenderness of the moments shared together, the shared dreams dared together; all these are the memories that the singer is trying to hold onto. But sadly, they all too soon come to an end. The chorus, "Was it too beautiful to last?" is a reflection of how fleeting and fragile those moments were.
The second verse carries on this sentiment, capturing the sentiment of a couple who seemed to be living in a fairytale world. Hand in hand, they were dreaming of a land where love reposes. But the reality of life comes crashing down, as the castle of sand that they had built together comes tumbling down. The final chorus, where the singer wonders why the dream had to end so fast, is a final lament on the loss of the love that was once shared.
In conclusion, "Too Beautiful" is a song of heartbreak, capturing the fragility of love and how easily it can be lost. The lyrics are poignant, and Engelbert Humperdinck's soulful performance adds to the emotive power of the song.

Oh my God, I have been searching for this song since I was 14. I played it on a jukebox on holiday in Spain all the time and wrote down the song titel in Spanish. When I came home I tried all music stores but no one had heard of it. So for years I have been listening to heaps of songs by Engelbert to find it. All I remember was - where are those sweet Septembers and the melody. Of course it reminds me of teenlove. So I am so happy and grateful that you have shared it!! Thank you sooooooo much:)
