The lyrics to Engine's song Teach Me seem to paint a picture of a dysfunctional relationship where the singer is willing to overlook the red flags in their partner's behaviors, despite being aware of their negative impact. Starting with "So I belong to fortunes gone," the first line may suggest the singer sees themselves as someone who doesn't have good luck in life or may be used to the downside of their prior luck. Nevertheless, they find them charming, and their charisma has an emotional hold on them.
