Really Love To See You Tonight
England Dan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hello, yeah it's been awhile
Not much, how 'bout you
I'm not sure why I'd called
I guess I really just wanted
To talk to you

I was thinking maybe later on
We could get together for a while
It's been such a long time
And I really do miss your smile

I'm not talking 'bout movin' in
And I don't want to change your life
But there's a warm wind blowin' the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight

We could go walkin' through a windy park
Take a drive along the beach
Or stay at home and watch TV
I see it really doesn't matter much to me

I'm not talking 'bout movin' in
And I don't want to change your life
But there's a warm wind blowin' the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight

I won't ask for promises
So you don't have to lie
We both played the game before
Say I love you then say goodbye

I'm not talking 'bout movin' in
And I don't want to change your life
But there's a warm wind blowin' the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight

I'm not talking 'bout movin' in
And I don't want to change your life
But there's a warm wind blowin' the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight

I'm not talking 'bout movin' in
And I don't want to change your life

But there's a warm wind blowin' the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight

Overall Meaning

The song "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" by England Dan speaks about a man who is reaching out to his past partner after a long time. The lyrics suggest that the man wants to catch up with his former partner and spend some time together just talking and hanging out. He doesn't want to pressure her into anything and is not interested in moving in or changing her life. He just wants to spend time with her and enjoy her company like old times.

The song is somewhat melancholic, and it is evident from the opening lyrics, "Hello, yeah, it's been a while, not much, how 'bout you." The words indicate a sadness and a desire for something familiar, which is reflected in the later lyrics, "But there's a warm wind blowin' the stars around, and I'd really love to see you tonight." The "warm wind" seems to suggest a sense of nostalgia and a longing for the past.

Overall, the song explores the feelings of someone who wants to reconnect with a past love. It talks about the nostalgia and the longing that comes with such feelings, and the desire to spend some quality time with someone who was once very important.

As a teenager growing up in the mid 70s, songs like this gem were everywhere
IMHO it's a timeless song about reconnecting with someone very special
whether you have not seen them in a week, a month or for many years the lyrics still mean the same
Many
years later when I was 39, by chance I was invited to a small party, where I met an older woman
who in many simple ways changed my life forever. . .in a very short time we became close friends
and lovers. . .As the years go by life's circumstances are always changing. . .I had to move 500+
miles
away from one of my very bff and now at age 60, for 5 long years, I have not IRL looked into her lovely
blue eyes or embraced her in a warm heartfelt hug. . .I've been saving my money so hopefully by late fall
I can afford to make a short trip back to sunny California to see and hold her again. . .When I get there I
plan to call her and play this song to her. . .and if I get her voicemail that's even better!

@Ace-mx3np

I'm 51...and for sooo many years, I've always said that same exact timeline was my favorite time - in life and music. 👍🏻

This Chorus is one of the smoothest lines in the history of love songs. " I'm not talking about moving in and I don't wanna change your life.
But, there's a warm wind blowing the stars around and I'd really love to see you tonight

sometimes a guy just wants some company :) :)

@kthor

It is so smooth! When I was younger (before we had easy access to the lyrics) I used to think it was "I'm not talking about the linens"!😂

I did too for a while....lol@@kthor

I'm 56 and this song was playing when my parents were so young, and we were children in the 70's.
Lots of fighting, and laughs, and love.
I would give anything to live one more day with Mom and Dad, and all of us together, with the sense that I have now.
Just to be a fly on the wall..
I miss US and the family they created in 1967.

I was born in 1960…they were the best of times
