Speak to Me of Love
Enoch Light Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I didn't wanna do it
I didn't wanna do it
You made me want you
And all the time you knew it
I guess you always knew it
You made me happy sometimes
But there were times
You made me feel so bad
You made me cry for
I didn't wanna tell you
I didn't wanna tell you
I want some love that's true
Yes, I do, 'deed I do
You know I do
Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, gimmie what I cry for
You know you've got the brand of kisses
That I'd die for
You know you made me love you
You made me cry for
I didn't wanna tell you
I didn't wanna tell you
I want some love that's true
Yes, I do, 'deed I do
You know I do
Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, gimmie what I cry for
You know you've got the brand of kisses
That I'd die for
You know you made me love you
The lyrics of Enoch Light's "Speak to Me of Love" express the mixed emotions of being loved by someone who may not return the same level of affection. The first verse suggests that the singer was initially reluctant to fall in love with the person addressed in the song, but they ultimately succumbed to their advances. The second verse shows that the relationship has its ups and downs, with the singer feeling both happy and sad at different times. However, they cannot help but want more of the love and attention that they receive from their partner, even though it may not be entirely reciprocated.
The repeated refrain of "gimmie what I cry for" is a powerful statement of longing and desire, emphasizing the intensity of the singer's feelings. They desperately crave the kind of love that is genuine and true, which they feel they may not be receiving at present. There is a sense of vulnerability and honesty in the lyrics, as the singer admits to crying and wanting something they may not be able to have.
Overall, "Speak to Me of Love" is a bittersweet love song that captures the complexity of romantic relationships. The song acknowledges that love can be both joyous and painful, and that sometimes we may want more from a partner than they are able or willing to give.

This is a great track.. The stereo-separation is wonderful. But may I a recommendation. These tracks benefit greatly from compression and echo. Try it and you'll see how great it will sound,

Recorded and mixed (from several magnificenly-placed microphones) basically live, to twin-track. The sound acheived here would be impossible to reproduce now, in spite of vastly superior recording technology

Someone needs to mash this up with something.
