06 Leave It To Rust
Enon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Step into the office
Doing business when they can
A crack in the glue frequent fallen to (?)
Pull the lever in advance

A look without a view
A look without a view
A mirror and a broom
A hope that I pursue

____ off your compass
For your graceful cult
And let us blow your trumpets
So we can swear that it's not our fault

I look in the mirror I don't know if I know this (?)
So I think (?) for a visit that never came
The entrance to you that I've never been through
And leave it to rust in the rain

The Brokehouse gambler's spade was gone
Dealing twos and threes
Make a lifetime plan with a farmer's tan
Steal a bit from an entrance face

A look without a view
A look without a view
A mirror and a broom
A hope that I pursue

I look in the mirror I don't know if I know this (?)
So I think (?) for a visit that never came
The entrance to you that I've never been through
And leave it to rust in the rain

Come visit ____ casino maybe down at Reno (?)
_____ that I knew you I'm looking right through you
Come visit our casino Vegas and Reno
The chips that I ____ you I'm looking right through you

I look in the mirror I don't know if I know this (?)
So I think (?) for a visit that never came
The entrace to you that I've never been through
And leave it to rust in the rain

And leave it to rust in the rain
And leave it to rust in the rain

Overall Meaning

The song "Leave It To Rust" by Enon is a commentary on societal structures and the individual's struggle to find meaning within them. The first verse describes the mundane routine of office work, with "a crack in the glue frequent fallen to" implying a sense of something being broken or lost within the system. The repeated refrain of "a look without a view" suggests a sense of emptiness or lack of purpose, with the mirror and broom representing the superficiality and menial tasks that fill the individual's days.

The second verse shifts focus to the idea of a cult-like mentality and the pressure to conform. The phrase "blow your trumpets so we can swear that it's not our fault" alludes to the idea of groupthink and the tendency to deflect responsibility onto others. The following lines about the mirror and the unknown visitor suggest a loss of identity and connection, with the entrance "never been through" symbolizing missed opportunities or paths not taken. The repetition of the final line "And leave it to rust in the rain" drives home the idea of decay and abandonment.

Overall, "Leave It To Rust" presents a bleak picture of modern society and the struggle to find purpose and meaning within it.

on Knock That Door

Yup... just another good song by Enon. But wait! This song is an all-time great. I searched Enon on Spotify, and I knew all the top 5 most popular songs but this one. I knew and liked all the other top 5 Enon songs, so I just listened to this and didn't begin to regret it.

on Spanish Boots

Opportunity nooses than hang beyond the shade(?)
Machiavellian stooges that feign whatever's said
South Floridian ruses with nothing left to sell
Polynesian(?) amusements that fall under the spell

Having the same conversation,
The same hell
Then mainly for yourself

Oh it's the same kind of aim
At the game dealt
And mainly for yourself
For the better of your health

Vanished loot are the riches
That lay upon the breast
Spanish Boots for the witches
That kiss before the test

Gotta loom on the fixes
Bare waste and so severe
Minor shoots at the pieces
Lies burnt to stay, oh it's all so in vain

That it's the same conversation,
The same hell
Then mainly for yourself

Oh it's the same pile of names at the game,
Hell, then mainly for yourself
For the better of your health

Oh it's the same conversation,
The same hell
Then mainly for yourself

Oh it's the same pile of names at the game,
Hell, then mainly for yourself

Oh it's the same conversation,
The same hell
Then mainly for yourself

Oh it's the same pile of names at the game,
Hell, then mainly for yourself
For the better of your health
