Addetto agli impacchettamenti
Io catalogo, assemblo
Io suddivido e dispongo
Quando la gente fa i traslochi
E sente panico nel cuore
Io tranquillizzo, io schedo io sovraintendo
Perché la gente quando cambia casa
Si stacca dei pezzi da se
E scopre quando è troppo tardi
Il peso, l'ingombro di certi ricordi che ha
E piano ci si lascia andare
E piano si va via, e piano si va via
Cambiano famiglie e amori
Cambiano i colori dell'intonaco
Cambiano famiglie e amori
Cambiano rubriche del telefono
La faccia cambia, e siamo stati noi
Cambiano i comportamenti
Cambiano planimetrie
Si mettono in cantina i vecchi amori
E non si passa più qui
Cambiano famiglie e amori
Cambiano i colori delle immagini
La vita cambia, e siamo stati noi
Che non passeremo più qui
The lyrics of Enrico Ruggeri's song "L'Uomo dei Traslochi" (The Moving Man) talk about the experiences and emotions associated with moving homes. The singer describes himself as the person responsible for packing and organizing belongings during the process of moving. He catalogs, assembles, and arranges everything meticulously.
When people go through the process of moving, they often experience feelings of panic and apprehension. The singer of the song reassures them, providing a sense of calm and understanding. He meticulously takes note of their possessions and tries to exceed their expectations. He understands that when people leave their homes, they also leave behind pieces of their own identity, realizing only later the weight and burden of these memories. Slowly, they let go, and gradually, they move on.
The chorus emphasizes the changes that occur when families and loves are replaced, and the colors of the walls are transformed. The song suggests that it is the people themselves who change the environment they are in. Furniture is swapped out, photographs are replaced, and one love is substituted for another. There are even those who choose to leave completely.
The singer acknowledges that his role is simply to facilitate the physical act of moving. He does not offer opinions or advice from the elevated platform where he operates. He observes that people not only leave the physical spaces they occupy but also shed a part of themselves, leaving behind a scent and a story that becomes intertwined with the memories of another person or family. As they gradually let go, they slowly move on.
The song continues to describe various aspects of change brought about by moving. Families, loves, telephone directories, and appearances are altered. Behaviors and floor plans change, and old loves are stored away in the basement. The implication is that once people move on, they may never return to the same place again. The song ultimately conveys the message that life is filled with constant changes, and it is the people themselves who shape and influence those changes.
