Enrique was a true blue poet : his vocal style was all his own, his words were simple but to the point … Anyone who has loved and lost can feel comforted by his songs.
He was the driving force behind Los Secretos, a spanish pop-rock group from the “movida ” in Madrid in the later 70s. He was influenced by the country rock movement in the United States ,and he loved tex-mex music. When he broke from the band with his brother he formed “Los Problemas” with a clear tex-mex influence. The band Los Secretos is still performing his songs and nobody can sing them better than his own brother, Álvaro Urquijo.

hoy me has enseñado
que amor se escribe con llanto.
The lyrics of Enrique Urquijo y Los Problemas's song Amor se escribe con llanto depict the feeling of sadness and disillusionment after a failed love affair. The singer appears to be looking back at a time when he was in love with the person he is addressing in the song. He talks about how the love that was once filled with hope and promise has turned bitter and has left him in a state of devastation. The love that was once characterized by laughter and joy has now turned to tears and heartache. Through the song, he tries to convey the message that love can be painful and its effects can be long-lasting.
The second stanza of the song talks about how love arrived in his life with laughter but is now leaving with tears, leaving him without any hope or inspiration. The singer talks about how his love for this person was uncontainable and how he adored them. However, despite his love, he has realized that love can sometimes bring more pain than happiness. He says that his love has taught him that one of the most profound emotions felt by humans, love, can also cause tremendous suffering.
In the last few lines, he talks about how he has realized that love is not always as perfect as it seems. He says that even though he loved the person deeply, it doesn't remove the fact that love can sometimes bring about nothing but tears. He implies that sometimes, it is better to let go of love that causes more pain than delight.
