Entombed's debut album was Left Hand Path, a cult favorite that established the band as a popular death metal band. The follow-up, Clandestine, was just as popular. These first two albums were unique in that they featured what was sometimes referred to as a "chainsaw" guitar sound which became a staple of Swedish death metal worldwide. It was created using the Boss Heavy Metal distortion pedal and a Peavey amplifier. This iconic guitar tone spawned the niche sub-genre referred to as 'entombedcore' which consists of just hardcore bands using the infamous chainsaw tone as part of their sound.
After the Gods of Grind tour, Entombed began changing their sound into a mix of groove metal, hard rock and death metal frequently called death n roll. Although this may have turned off many fans, it established their mainstream and critical reputation. Wolverine Blues and Hollowman are widely considered classics of early 1990s death metal, but were followed by problems with various record companies.
In 1999, Entombed released Uprising, which was an anti-commercial return to the band's roots. The follow-up, Morning Star returned to Hollowman and Wolverine Blues style metal. They have since released 2003's album Inferno, a continuation of the 'death n roll' style that has become their trademark sound.
2006 saw the release of new music from Entombed, with the When in Sodom EP on June 6 (or 06/06/06), and the full length album Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments was released on July 9th, 2007. This album is the group's first release with drummer Olle Dahlstedt (of Alpha Safari and ex-Misery Loves Co.), who replaced long-time drummer Peter Stjärnvind in 2006.

Eyemaster
Entombed Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To reborn and never end
Once I'm on the other side
I'll see if it was the end of my ride
I don't live to transform
Present into past
Or fall into a lifeless pattern
Going nowhere fast
Master I will always be
Of all that is of me
But I can't ever touch
What is of thee
I question things to see
If they are what they're said to be
I ask the why and wherefore
I reap the fruits of time but I let it take it's course
But where no-one can answer me
Where nobody'll ever know
That is where my path begins
That is where I go
Human flesh, human blood
But in your words I'm nothing but god
A master eye is the eye
Able to behold
And part truth from lie
In what it's been told
The lyrics of Entombed's song "Eyemaster" express a sense of independence and an emphasis on the present rather than the future or the past. The first verses state that the singer lives for the moment and doesn't concern themselves with rising above their current state or transforming into something new. The lyrics suggest that the meaning of life cannot be fully known until one has reached the other side, implying an afterlife. However, the singer does not seem concerned with the afterlife, but rather is focused on the present and the questions that the present brings up.
The chorus suggests that the singer is a master of themselves, but unable to comprehend a god or a higher power. The lyrics emphasize the importance of questioning things in life and trying to find the truth in a sea of lies. The final lyrics of the song suggest that a true master of oneself is one who can see beyond the surface and distinguish truth from falsehood.
Overall, the lyrics of "Eyemaster" suggest a desire for independence and a focus on the present rather than the future or the past. The song suggests that questioning the world around us is important and that seeing beyond the surface is necessary to gain a true understanding of the world.
