Entombed's debut album was Left Hand Path, a cult favorite that established the band as a popular death metal band. The follow-up, Clandestine, was just as popular. These first two albums were unique in that they featured what was sometimes referred to as a "chainsaw" guitar sound which became a staple of Swedish death metal worldwide. It was created using the Boss Heavy Metal distortion pedal and a Peavey amplifier. This iconic guitar tone spawned the niche sub-genre referred to as 'entombedcore' which consists of just hardcore bands using the infamous chainsaw tone as part of their sound.
After the Gods of Grind tour, Entombed began changing their sound into a mix of groove metal, hard rock and death metal frequently called death n roll. Although this may have turned off many fans, it established their mainstream and critical reputation. Wolverine Blues and Hollowman are widely considered classics of early 1990s death metal, but were followed by problems with various record companies.
In 1999, Entombed released Uprising, which was an anti-commercial return to the band's roots. The follow-up, Morning Star returned to Hollowman and Wolverine Blues style metal. They have since released 2003's album Inferno, a continuation of the 'death n roll' style that has become their trademark sound.
2006 saw the release of new music from Entombed, with the When in Sodom EP on June 6 (or 06/06/06), and the full length album Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments was released on July 9th, 2007. This album is the group's first release with drummer Olle Dahlstedt (of Alpha Safari and ex-Misery Loves Co.), who replaced long-time drummer Peter Stjärnvind in 2006.

Heavens Die
Entombed Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The gnostic tears have failed
To recover me from Rimbaud
Resurrected to get laid
Emotionally disqualified
To kill the liquid sky
I'm on the path to clandestine (God make heavens die)
Sanctify the few
The accursed will share
Insects crawling over you
Euthanasia can rise
Time told by the sun
Submit to leather menace
And turning of sands are done
Bury it in a nameless grave
Heavens die!
The lyrics of Entombed’s song “Heavens Die” are vivid and enigmatic. The song seems to be exploring themes of death, rebirth, and the meaning of life. The first stanza starts with the line, “Death thrust this avalanche,” which sets a dark and foreboding tone. The imagery of an avalanche suggests a sudden and violent end, perhaps of civilization or of the individual. The second line, “The gnostic tears have failed,” could be interpreted in a few different ways, but may be a reference to the Gnostic belief that the material world is inherently corrupt, and that only the spiritual realm contains truth.
The third line, “To recover me from Rimbaud,” is a reference to the French poet Arthur Rimbaud, whose works often explore themes of nihilism and despair. The line “Resurrected to get laid” may seem shocking at first, but could be interpreted as a desire to find pleasure or fulfillment in the midst of a bleak and meaningless world. The phrase “Emotionally disqualified” could suggest a sense of alienation or apathy, while “To kill the liquid sky” may be an expression of a desire to escape from reality or transcend it altogether. The final line, “I’m on the path to clandestine (God make heavens die)” is difficult to interpret with certainty, but may suggest a yearning for a hidden or secret truth, and a desire for even the heavens themselves to be destroyed or transformed.
The second stanza begins with “Inaugurations of my love,” which could be a reference to a spiritual or philosophical view of love as a force of transformation or redemption. The phrase “Sanctify the few” may suggest that only a select few are deserving of such love or transcendence. The line “The accursed will share / Insects crawling over you” is particularly cryptic, but could be interpreted as a metaphor for the fragility and transience of human life, and the ultimate futility of trying to resist or escape death. “Euthanasia can rise” suggests a sense of resignation or acceptance of death, while “Time told by the sun” may be an allusion to the cyclical nature of existence. The line “Submit to leather menace / And turning of sands are done” could be interpreted in a few different ways, but may suggest a surrender to the physical or material world, and perhaps an acknowledgement that all things eventually come to an end. The final line, “Bury it in a nameless grave,” is a haunting and poignant way to end the song, hinting at the ultimate futility of even the most profound and meaningful moments of our lives.
