Kitty
Enuff Z'Nuff Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh yeah
All right
I just can't kiss her after all she's done
But the guys all dig her so I lead her on
If I could just not call her 'til my hair was long
I'd be a knocked out rocker
And I'd prove her wrong
She'd make it so damn easy
Just to leave her home
After 15 minutes on the telephone.
You know she don't try talkin'
She just piss and moan
See the way it's all goin'
Glad to be alone

Ki-Ki-Ki-Kitty
There's a new kid in town
And he's just trying to look pretty
Why are you putting him down?
Ki-Ki-Ki-Kitty
We need a whole lot more
What we got is a pity
What we're doin' is a
Ch-ch-ch ore-ore-ore

The cops are driving by here every night
You know the neighbors don't like it
And you know they're right
If I don't come home I just expect a fight
See you talks real heavy
But your words are light
You know you're looking much better
Than you have in years
You've done a good job covering up
All your fears
And with your face all smiles
When you're out for beers
Hope it gets more for ya
Than it got you here

Ki-Ki-Ki-Kitty
There's a new kid in town
And he's just trying to look pretty
Why are you putting him down?
Ki-Ki-Ki-Kitty
We need a whole lot more
What we got is a pity

What we're doin' is a
Ch-ch-ch ore-ore-ore

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Enuff Z'Nuff's "Kitty" describe a complicated relationship dynamic between the singer and a woman he refers to as "Kitty." On one hand, he is clearly attracted to her, as he acknowledges that "the guys all dig her" and expresses a desire to be a "knocked out rocker" who can prove her wrong. However, he also seems to feel conflicted about their relationship, as he admits that he can't bring himself to kiss her after "all she's done." Part of this conflict may stem from the fact that Kitty is not an easy person to be around - she doesn't engage in meaningful conversation, but instead "piss[es] and moan[s]" and generally causes issues for the singer.

The lyrics also touch on the idea of societal pressure and the ways in which people are judged by their peers. The singer seems to feel like he has to lead Kitty on in order to fit in with his friends, who are all drawn to her. Similarly, he notes that there's a sense of competition amongst his neighbors, who disapprove of the singer's activities and are likely judgmental of Kitty as well.
