Storms In Afrika
Enya Lyrics

Cá fhad é ó
Siúl tríd na stoirmeacha
Dul tríd na stoirmeacha
Cá fhad é ó
an tús don stoirm
Cá fhad é ó
an tús go deireadh
Tóg do Chroí
Siúl tríd na stoirmeacha
Tóg do chroísa
Dul tríd na stoirmeacha
Turas mór
Tor tríd na Stoirmeacha
Turas fada
Amharc tríd na Stoirmeacha
The lyrics to Enya's song "Storms in Africa" describe a journey through a stormy landscape that serves as a metaphor for a journey of the heart. The opening lines, "Cá fhad é ó/Cá fhad é ó/Siúl tríd na stoirmeacha/Dul tríd na stoirmeacha" ("How far is it?/ How far is it?/ Walk through the storms/ Going through the storms") imply a sense of uncertainty and the need for endurance. The following lines, "Cá fhad é ó/an tús don stoirm/Cá fhad é ó/an tús go deireadh" ("How far is it?/ The beginning of the storm/ How far is it?/From beginning to end"), reinforce this notion of a long and difficult journey.
The chorus, "Tóg do Chroí/Siúl tríd na stoirmeacha/Tóg do chroísa/Dul tríd na stoirmeacha" ("Take your heart/ Walk through the storms/ Take your heart/ Going through the storms"), suggests that the journey through the storms is essentially a journey of the heart, and that it requires courage and emotional fortitude. The final two lines, "Turas mór/Tor tríd na Stoirmeacha/Turas fada/Amharc tríd na Stoirmeacha" ("Big trip/Going through the storms/Long journey/Look through the storms"), reinforce the idea of a difficult but potentially transformative journey.

@Afer_Imber
Born Zambia 🇿🇲 but in the UK now. This takes me back to my bedroom in Chalimbana in the rainy season; it had a corrugated iron roof, and as a boy I lay in the dark, loving the deafening din of the rain, lightning and thunder. Hence my name, which gives a nod to another of Her Eithnean Majesty's great tracks (Afer Ventus). African nations have great singing traditions which this track captures very authentically.

I envy you to have heard and seen those rains. I spent some time in Sarawak, Borneo and the stormy rains on the hut roof would give me goosebumps.
