Tennessee Waltz
Eri Chiemi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was walzin
With my darlin
To the Tennessee Waltz
When an old friend I happened to see!
I Introduced him
To my loved one
And while they were walzin
My friend stole my sweetheart from me!

I remember the night
And the Tennessee Waltz
Now I know just how much I have lost
Yes, I lost my
Little darlin
The night they were playing
The beautiful Tennessee Waltz!

I remember the night
And the Tennessee Waltz
Now I know just how much I have lost
Yes, I lost my
Little darlin
The night they were playing
The beautiful Tennessee Waltz!

My father brought this same record home from Japan after WWII he had me learn it and would have me sing it to him (,I was 3) I am shocked that I found this...what a sweet memory...thank you whoever put it up

@CHF2003e

skingren47 Her English is a typical style when Japanese speak English. Most consonants at the end of some words are missing. The reason is that in Japanese all words are spoken in ‘complete syllables’. It is OK. anyway. She was a good singer.

@meimeihechuan

So sweet. You must be a nice singer as well.

Thank you for this! My father and mother had this record back in the day. (They brought back with them moving from Japan.) It was played incessantly when Dad wanted to remember his time stationed overseas. ...natsukashi. 😂

I knew a guy 40 years ago in Joliet who lived with his wife and kids on the second floor of a large house on Wheeler Avenue. He bumped into me as I was rummaging through some old records in an antique shop, and invited me to come over as he had many to sell. Indeed, the entire first floor of that house was like a huge antique shop, and gobs of stuff for sale in the basement as well. I was working in Joliet at the time, and we arranged quite a few visits after work for me to make selections from his stock. One evening I showed up, and nobody was home. I waited a while, nobody showed up, and so I went home. I was concerned something may have happened to him, so I called the next day. Turned out he forgot about our appointment, and scheduled another time. When I showed up, he felt so bad about what happened that he wanted to make it up to me. He reached over to some stuff he had behind a display case, and pulled out this very same disc, in excellent condition, and in the original envelope. He wanted me to have it, and I have kept it all these years. I did not know there was a Japanese version of this song, which is one of my favorites. I did some research, and it turns out that he gave me that disc right about the exact same time the singer died. She was only 14 years old when she made that record, and she died quite young, apparently due to the unfortunate indiscretion of mixing alcohol and cold medicine. But anyway, this is the most beautiful version of Tennessee Waltz I have ever heard, and I was always amused by the cute way she pronounces English words with a Japanese accent -- Tennessee Roarz. My mom's little brother was killed in 1943, in the Aleutian Islands, in a battle between Americans and Japanese. Forty years later her little sister and brother-in-law managed to make an automobile trip to the national cemetery where he is buried. While there, they saw part of the Alaska pipeline, which was under construction. They noticed the words "made in Japan" etched into one of the pipe fittings. My aunt was furious. "He died for nothing," she said. Each time I listen to this beautiful record I'm reminded of the tremendous damage that has been done to humanity by politicians and world rulers. The Bible promises they are all on a collision course with divine judgment. Bible chronology and world events make it certain that time is just around the corner.
