Behind the Garage

Since everything I say doesn't make sense
It's not 'cause what I did behind the garage
It's not just that, the reason I can't talk
How come it upsets you so
Shouldn't it be me who feels uneased
How come you first think of my health
Everything that passes in my eyes
The second they close and I'm in my cold bed
Keep your feet away from me you said
Trying to close you out of my cold head
How come it upsets you so
Shouldn't it be me who feels uneased
How come you first think of my health
Trying to forget
The Eric's Trip's song Behind the Garage is a poignant and introspective track that touches on themes of isolation, self-doubt, and introspection. The opening lines "What would you like to talk then, since everything I say doesn't make sense" set the tone for the rest of the song, which is essentially a conversation between the singer and an unknown person. The singer is struggling to articulate their thoughts and feelings, which they attribute to something they did "behind the garage." They feel frustrated that their attempts to communicate are failing and that they are unable to make sense of their own emotions.
The second verse continues the conversation, with the unknown person asking the singer why they are so upset. The singer responds with a question of their own, turning the spotlight back on the other person and questioning why they are so concerned about their health. The lyrics suggest a sense of guilt and self-reproach, with the singer trying to distance themselves from their own internal turmoil by pushing others away.
Overall, the song is a powerful reflection on the difficulty of understanding and expressing our innermost emotions. It suggests that sometimes we need to take a step back from our own experiences and try to view them from the perspective of others in order to gain some clarity.
