Benét's father loved classical music and inspired an interest in music in his son. By his teens, Eric had formed a vocal group with his sister and cousin called "Benét." The group released a self-titled album in 1992 that sold 70,000 copies.
Also in 1992, Benét's girlfriend, Tami Stauff, gave birth to a daughter they named India. The couple's happiness was short-lived when 25-year old Tami was killed in a car accident on April 24, 1993.
In 1994, Benét signed with Warner Bros. Records, releasing his solo debut album, True to Myself, in fall (1996). His next album, A Day in the Life, was released in 1999; its first single, "Georgy Porgy (featuring Faith Evans)" received significant airplay, but the second single, "Spend My Life With You (featuring Tamia)", became a smash hit. "Spend My Life With You" rose to number one on the American R&B charts, was certified gold, and nominated for a 2000 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group. The album, A Day In The Life also won a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Album, Male. Benét also recorded for Earth, Wind, and Fire's 30th anniversary CD.
Benét has also been active as an actor; he had a recurring role on the television program For Your Love (1998 - 2002). He made his film debut in Glitter (2001).
In The End

Strugglin' with the woes of life
Just broken down as the rain kept steady pourin'
We questioned and we philosophized
But the only truth that we surmised
Is rain will fall so the rose will keep on growing
Sometimes it's hard to understand
But in the end
You're gonna find that strength that lies within
And in the end
All you need is the comfort of a friend
And in the end
You won't break 'cause you're learning how to bend
And the hand of God will guide you always
In the end
Now I know a woman so abused
By the hands and words her husband used
Till the day would come when she could take no more
With two little girls she was left to feed
She taught them strength and self-esteem
Now she's an inspiration to everyone she meets
I know that life has a funny way of bringing out the best
By bringing on the pain
But in the end
A little love's gonna bring you back again
And in the end
Every answer's written on the wind
And in the end
Looking back you can finally understand
He was always there beside you
You'll see
'Cause I know the fight when you struggle every morning
Just to face that world one more day
And you're holding on to life while a northern wind is blowing
Just believe your help is on the way
Oh in the end
You're gonna find that strength that lies within
And in the end
You're gonna get there no matter where you've been
'Cause in the end, well
The one truth is love will always win
And the hand of God will guide you
Just believe and let Him in
'Cause in the end, well
A little love's gonna bring you back again
And in the end, well
Every answer's written on the wind
And in the end
Just look back and I swear you'll understand
He was always there beside you
I heard some news from a friend of mine
The lyrics of Eric Benét's song "In The End" speak to the theme of resilience amidst adversity. The song begins with the storyteller receiving news from a friend who is struggling with the "woes of life". The rain serves as a metaphor for the hardships that come with life, but the refrain emphasizes the importance of perseverance and finding strength within oneself. The song tells the story of a woman who suffered abuse from her husband but was able to raise her daughters with self-esteem and become an inspiration to others. Ultimately, the lyrics suggest that love and faith will guide and support us through life's struggles and that we will look back on those struggles with a clearer understanding of their purpose.
The song's chorus provides a message of hope and encouragement to those facing difficult situations. The refrain emphasizes the value of inner strength, the support of a friend, and the unwavering hand of God. The line, "every answer's written on the wind" suggests that the wisdom to overcome obstacles and find purpose is all around us, and the realization of this wisdom may come with time and reflection. The lyrics of "In The End" encourage listeners to keep fighting, even when the road ahead seems long and difficult.
