Why?
Eric Benet & The Roots Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I dance on grey skulls
Of just hipocrites!
On my shoulders I carry
The globe full of pools!

I devour my own trails
On which my homunculus hans!
The comet shot out of my brain
Will not reach the borders of the Space!

Crowds of idiots trample down
My pregnant pituitary gland!
I weep over my Loneliness
Surrounded by my Friends!

I must laugh at the kindness
Of my mortal Enemies!
I open my Inward Mind
For the icy breath of the endless Existence

I want to change into an icicle
Of the universal Reason!
My heart turned to stone
Together with the testicles of the Life!

Thousands of hammers hitting the anvil

Of my dark Destiny!
Why?... Billion of Nothing!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Eric Benet & The Roots's song, Why, are quite cryptic and abstract, making their interpretation somewhat challenging. Nevertheless, upon analyzing the lyrics, it becomes apparent that they are talking about the struggles and conflicts that are faced with living in a world full of hypocrites and stupid people. The beginning lines of the song - "I dance on grey skulls of just hypocrites! On my shoulders, I carry the globe full of pools!" - indicate a sense of superiority over the people of the world, with their skull dancing symbolizing the way they stand above the rest, seemingly with a better understanding of the world. The burden they carry on their shoulders, which they describe as "the globe full of pools," could be interpreted as the problems of the world or the weight of responsibility they feel.

The lyrics continue with references to the struggle of self-destruction, with lines such as "I devour my own trails on which my homunculus hans!" and "My heart turned to stone together with the testicles of life!" These lines show the artist's desire to change themselves while acknowledging their inherent self-destructive tendencies. The line "I want to change into an icicle of the universal reason!" could be interpreted as a reference to wanting to become impartial and objective in their thoughts rather than biased or emotional.

Overall, the lyrics of Why by Eric Benet & The Roots are cryptic and abstract but appear to contain themes of struggle amidst the chaos of the world, the desire for self-improvement, and the challenge of achieving objective thinking.
