Burdon left also this band and run back to stardome in the mid-70s with The Eric Burdon Band producing heavy rocking songs. He went on forming short-living groups such as Eric Burdon's Fire Dept. in 1980, another Eric Burdon Band in 1981, especially for a motion picture-starring role in Comeback for which he made the soundtrack and a reunion band with The Animals in 1983 to get back to the Mainstream Charts. The 1980s saw Burdon in genres such as heavy metal, new wave, pop, reggae, disco, blues, rock and roll, punk, funk and rap. He also published his album "I Used To Be An Animal" as well as his autobiography with the same title. He went on touring in stadiums as well as in small clubs around the world.
In 1990 he formed the Eric Burdon & Robby Krieger Band who toured mainly in America. They recorded some demo tapes, but never released them. In 1991 he toured the world again as Eric Burdon & Brian Auger Band. They released a double-live album, "Access All Areas" in 1993, showing versions of Burdon's old hits in new musical outfits, once again as a blues, metal, reggae and fusion performer.
In 1994 they got disbanded, Burdon got introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where he performed 1995 with Bon Jovi and created a new group of high-professional musicians, Eric Burdon's i Band. They disbanded in 1998 and he formed Eric Burdon & The New Animals. In 2003 they changed their name in Eric Burdon & The Animals, after some band changes. In 2004 the long awaited studio-album "My Secret Life" was released and brought him back into the mainstream charts and in late 2005 the live album "Athens Traffic Live" was released.
Burdon formed a new band-line-up, also touring as Eric Burdon & The Animals. In January 2006 he released "Soul of a Man", with good critics worldwide. He wanted to create an album who is dedicated to the blues and rnb. Since then he toured the world without a break, always looking for new material, performing with other famous musicians.
Recently, Burdon wrote a screenplay called "Twisted Oliver" and is working on a new studio album. He turned down tours with War and Linkin Park in the last year, but it seems that the new year is bringing many surprises.
Many of his bands also used elements of speed metal, thrash metal, grindcore and death metal.
He's definitely one of the most important people in music history, while recording the first #1 hit with a length more than four minutes, "House of the Rising Sun", the most popular anti-vietnam song "We Gotta Get out of this Place", the first song recorded in stereo, "Sky Pilot" and the first latin rap in pop music, "Spill the Wine". His self-written rock song "Year of the Guru" (1968) proves that he created the first rap rock-song. His political environment can be seen in his multi-racial project with the band War from late 1969 to early 1971. In 2008 he reunited with the band at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Without his experimental vocals, hip hop, rap, heavy metal, rock, pop and rnb would have a completely different face.
His singing style and music also influenced artists such as Joe Cocker, The Doors, Deep Purple, The Brute Chorus, Ted Nugent, Janis Joplin, The Sonics, Steppenwolf, Chester Bennington, Bruce Springsteen, The Black Crowes, Tom Petty, The White Stripes, Ryan Adams, John Mellencamp, The Compulsive Gamblers, The Vines, Julian Thome, The Hives, MC5 and many more.
In November 2008 the magazine Rolling Stone ranked him #57 on their list of the Best Singers of all Times.

In another lonely town
But I ain't to young to worrry
I'm not to old to cry
When my woman lets me down
I got another empty bottle
And another empty bed
No, I'm not too old to lie
I'm just another empty-head
That's why I'm lonely
Lord, I'm so lonely
What am I gonna do?
I'm gonna ride on
Ride on
Ride on
Ride on
Baby, one of this days
I'm gonna change my evil ways
'Till that day comes
You'll find standin' on a side
Waitin' for a ride
I've broken another promise
Looks like I've broken another heart
But I'm not to young to realise
That I ain't to old to try
Try to get back to the start
Ride on, ride on
And it's another red-light nightmare
On another red-light street
But I ain't to young to hurry
No, I'm not to old to die
But I'm sure hard to beat
That's why I'm lonely
Lord, I'm so lonely
What am I gonna do?
I'm gonna ride on
Ride on
Ride on
Ride on
Baby, baby I just gotta keep on
Ridin' me, ridin' me
Ridin' my, ridin' my
Ridin' all-ridin', all-ridin'
Gotta keep on movin'
Gonna be a rider
Gotta keep on movin'
Let me be a rider
Well, I'm out on a hill
Gonna be a rider
And I'm a hard a-drivin' wheel
Let me be a rider
I got to be movin' on now
Gonna be a rider
Let me be
Let me be a rider
Gonna be a rider
Ridin' on, ridin on'
Let me be a rider
Ridin' on, ridin on'
Ridin' on, ridin' on baby
Gonna be a rider
Send him bye-bye
Let me be a rider
I got to ride on
Gonna be a rider
Baby, ride on
Let me be a rider
I want be a rider
Gonna be a rider
Be your e-rider
Let me be a rider
The lyrics to Eric Burdon's "Ride On" are a candid and introspective look into the life of a man who is struggling with loneliness and addiction. The opening verse sets the tone for the song, as the singer reflects on his current situation, alone in yet another lonely town. He acknowledges that although he may not be too young or too old to feel the pain of a failed relationship, he is still struggling to cope with the loss of his lover. The second verse delves deeper into the singer's substance abuse issues, as he highlights his reliance on alcohol to numb his pain.
Despite the darkness of the situation, the chorus provides a glimmer of hope. The singer resolves to "ride on," a phrase that could be interpreted in a few different ways. It could mean that he intends to continue his self-destructive behavior, riding on into an uncertain future. However, it could also be seen as a determination to keep moving forward, to not give up in the face of adversity. The final verse suggests the latter interpretation, as the singer vows to change his ways and get back to the life he once knew. Whether he is successful or not, the song ends on a note of persistence and resilience.
Overall, "Ride On" is a poignant meditation on the human condition. It shows the power of addiction and the pain of loneliness, but it also highlights the potential for hope and change.

It's another lonely evening
I'm all by myself again
In another lonely town
I'm in a new place, but it doesn't matter because I'm still alone
But I ain't to young to worrry
Even though I'm not old, I still have things to be concerned about
I'm not to old to cry
I may not be a child, but I'm not too old to feel sad and express my emotions
When my woman lets me down
I'm upset because my significant other disappointed me
I got another empty bottle
I finished another drink
And another empty bed
I have another night with no one to share it with
But I ain't too young to admit it
I'm not too immature to acknowledge my problems
No, I'm not too old to lie
I'm not too aged to deceive myself and others
I'm just another empty-head
I feel like I'm foolish and nothing inside
That's why I'm lonely
This is why I feel isolated
Lord, I'm so lonely
I'm really feeling alone
What am I gonna do?
I don't know how to fix this
I'm gonna ride on
I'm going to keep going
Ride on
Just keep moving forward, don't give up
Baby, one of this days
Maybe someday in the future
I'm gonna change my evil ways
I plan to reform my bad habits
'Till that day comes
Until then
You'll find standin' on a side
You'll see me standing on the side of the road
Waitin' for a ride
Hoping someone will stop and offer me a ride
I've broken another promise
I failed to keep another commitment
Looks like I've broken another heart
I've hurt another person's feelings
But I'm not to young to realise
I'm still old enough to understand
That I ain't to old to try
I'm not too aged to make an effort
Try to get back to the start
I'll try to go back to the beginning, where things weren't so bad
And it's another red-light nightmare
I'm having a terrible time stopping at this red light
On another red-light street
This isn't the first red light I've had trouble at
But I ain't to young to hurry
I'm still young enough to move quickly
No, I'm not to old to die
Even though I'm not young, I'm not ready to give up on life yet
But I'm sure hard to beat
Despite my struggles, I'm still a tough individual to defeat
That's why I'm lonely
This is why I feel isolated
Lord, I'm so lonely
I'm really feeling alone
What am I gonna do?
I don't know how to fix this
I'm gonna ride on
I'm going to keep going
Ride on
Just keep moving forward, don't give up
Baby, baby I just gotta keep on
I have to keep pressing forward, no matter what
Ridin' me, ridin' me
I'm being ridden by my troubles and hardships
Ridin' my, ridin' my
My struggles are weighing down on me
Ridin' all-ridin', all-ridin'
I'm riding away from everything that's burdening me
Gotta keep on movin'
I have to keep going
Gonna be a rider
I'm going to keep pressing forward
Let me be a rider
Please let me continue on
Well, I'm out on a hill
I'm out in the open, on a hill
Gonna be a rider
I'm going to keep pressing forward
And I'm a hard a-drivin' wheel
I'll keep moving forward like a hard-working machine
Let me be a rider
Don't let anything stop me from moving forward
I got to be movin' on now
I have to be on my way again
Let me be
Allow me to keep going
I want be a rider
I want to keep moving forward
Be your e-rider
I'll be a rider, no matter what
Let me be a rider
Don't stop me from moving forward
