Carmen's first solo single "All By Myself" was penned by Carmen based on a classical theme by Sergei Rachmaninoff. It was subsequently covered by Celine Dion and also used in the opening scene of the movie 'Bridget Jones' Diary'.
Besides his successful solo career, Carmen is remembered as one of the rock'n'rollers behind the Cleveland, Ohio-based band The Raspberries. As lead vocalist and co-songwriter, he helped the group gain big popularity in the 70s through arena-ready hits such as "Go All the Way" and "Tonight", with the band becoming a cult figure among power pop fans. Carmen reunited with Raspberries producer Jimmy Ienner to be a part of the 'Dirty Dancing' soundtrack, a commercial juggernaut that achieved massive success and was RIAA certified multi-platinum. Carmen's song "Hungry Eyes" reached the top 40 charts in Canada, Germany, the U.S., and elsewhere while attracting critical acclaim. Over the years, Carmen's work has been praised by many of his fellow musicians including Bruce Springsteen and Ringo Starr among others.
On 24 December 2013, the first new recording in over 15 years by Carmen titled "Brand New Year" was released.

When we said that our love was forever
All those plans we made
For tomorrow that looked so bright
And I understand
All the reasons you gave me for leavin'
But that doesn't help
When I'm sleepin' alone each night
So if you ever have a change of heart
Just remember it's not too late to start
If you still believe in what love can do
I could find someone
More than willing to be your replacement
But there's no one else
Who can move me the way you do
So for now, goodbye
But if ever you find you still want me
You just call my name
'Cause I'll always be here for you
So if you ever have a change of heart
Just remember it's not too late to start
If you still believe in what love can do
Nothing you could ever do
Would change the things I know
Deep in my heart
So I got to make you understand before I go
Sooner or later
I don't know when
I'm gonna get you back
In my arms again
And if you ever have a change of heart
Just remember it's not too late to start
If you still believe in what love can do
And if you ever have a change of heart
Just remember it's not too late to start
If you still believe in what love can do
And if you ever have a change of heart
Just remember it's not too late to start
If you still believe in what love can do
The song "Change of Heart" by Eric Carmen is a ballad about a breakup and the possibility of reconciliation between the two people who were once in love. The lyrics are emotional, touching and express the pain of a broken heart. The singer reminisces about when they were in love and happy, but things changed, and they had to say goodbye. Despite the hurt, the singer still believes in the power of love and is hopeful that someday, the one who got away might have a change of heart and want to come back.
However, the singer is not naïve, and they understand that there were reasons for the breakup, which may still exist. The lyrics express the hope that the person who left would remember the love they shared and consider giving the relationship another chance. The singer is willing to wait for their former love and be there for them whenever the time is right.
Overall, "Change of Heart" is a powerful reminder of the gut-wrenching feeling of lost love and the hope that springs from the belief in the transformative power of love. Carmen’s emotive delivery transports the listener to a place of raw vulnerability, making the song a classic in the ballad genre.

I can still recall
I remember the times we had in the past
When we said that our love was forever
We promised that our love would last forever
All those plans we made
We made a lot of plans for our future
For tomorrow that looked so bright
We had a lot of hope for our future
And I understand
I comprehend
All the reasons you gave me for leavin'
I understand why you left
But that doesn't help
However, that doesn't do much good
When I'm sleepin' alone each night
When I'm lonely at night
So if you ever have a change of heart
In case you ever change your mind
Just remember it's not too late to start
Just keep in mind that it's not too late
If you still believe in what love can do
If you still have faith in love
I could find someone
I could find another person

But if you find that you still want me
You just call my name
Just call out my name
'Cause I'll always be here for you
Because I'll always be there for you
Nothing you could ever do

Just remember that it's not too late

So true. I was at a radio station in Topeka where we played this, before I went to one in KC, when I heard this. Lovely song. It was not a hit and we didn't play it long, sadly.
