Spaceman
Eric Martin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sinking, my dispositions bleak
The rock is shrinking
Big, bad wolf is counting sheep
Sucked up in the rush of a radical mess
That's left when you're fresh out of bullets
Times up, kill the clock
Spaceman, make me disappear
Take me anywhere
Spaceman, you're my rocket out of here
I can't stand this
Daily Planet
Spaceman, you're my rocket out of here
I'll be floating
Gyroscoping kingdom come
I am happy knowing
I am never coming home
What's up when you're down and you're cut to the quick
You're sick of the smiles and the stabbing
Times up, kill the clock
I could use a little change of madness
Spaceman, make me disappear
Take me anywhere
Spaceman, you're my rocket out of here
I can't stand this

Spaceman, you're my rocket out of here
The song "Spaceman" by Eric Martin is a cry for help from someone who is feeling lost and overwhelmed by the pressures of life. The person is in a deep, sinking state and feels like the world is closing in on them. The metaphor of a "rock" that is shrinking emphasizes the sense of suffocation and claustrophobia. The "big, bad wolf" counting sheep is a playful reference to the nursery rhyme, but also suggests that danger is lurking and the person is vulnerable.
The lyrics evoke a feeling of being trapped and desperate for escape. The rush of a "radical mess" suggests that the person has taken some risks and made some mistakes that have led to their current predicament. The reference to being "fresh out of bullets" suggests that the person has run out of options and is feeling powerless. The chorus expresses the desire to be taken away by a spaceman, who represents a source of salvation and freedom. The repetition of "take me anywhere" underscores the need for a complete break from the current situation.
The song is a powerful expression of the human desire to escape from problems and find a better life. It taps into the universal experience of feeling trapped and overwhelmed, and offers a fantasy of being rescued by a space traveler. The lyrics are enhanced by the driving, upbeat music, which provides a sense of urgency and momentum.
