Where Are You?
Eric Martin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There's a theory that I have you left me for
Imperfections
And the inability to be on my own
The vultures have picked my body clean
It's a miracle to me that I still have the skin
To believe you
God
Where are you' When I fall out of the sky
Where are you' And why am I denied
Where are you' with dove in hand
Am I damned if I come undone'
So I'm not your angel anymore
Is it easier to lessen the weight of the world'
On your shoulders
Than to understand the undertow
That holds me down
Were you looking when I clawed my way out'
Was it my imagination
Or were you behind the curtain
The one that's pulling all the strings
My hypocrisy gets the best of me
And my head is full of you
The opening lines of the song “Where are you?” by Eric Martin questions the whereabouts of a loved one who has left without any explanation. The lyrics are full of cynicism and self-doubt, the singer stating that his imperfections and inability to be on his own have led to the departure of his loved one. The lyrics “the vultures have picked my body clean, it’s a miracle to me that I still have skin to believe you” suggest that the singer has gone through a difficult phase, with his own beliefs and confidence shaken.
The chorus is a call for help and reassurance, the singer questioning why he has been denied help and support from his loved one. The lyrics “Where are you? When I fall out of the sky, Where are you? And why am I denied, Where are you? With dove in hand, Am I damned if I come undone?” suggest that the singer is having a hard time finding his way back to his loved one, despite the hardships he has endured.
The lyrics suggest a constant search for answers and the need for a second chance to rectify things. The singer is questioning his own actions with the lyrics “My hypocrisy gets the best of me, And my head is full of you”. Overall, the song is not just a love song but a relatable snapshot of our lives, full of deep emotions of heartbreak and the search for acceptance.

Hold on, little girl,
Show me what he's done to you.
Stand up, little girl.
A broken heart can't be that bad!
When it's through, it's through,
Fate will twist the both of you,
So come on baby come on over,
Let me be the one to show you...
[Chorus:]
I'm the one who wants to be with you.
Deep inside I hope you feel it too.
Waited on a line of greens and blues
Just to be the next to be with you.
Build up your confidence,
So you can be on top for once.
Wake up! Who cares about
Little boys that talk too much?
I seen it all go down.
Your game of love was all rained out,
So come on baby, come on over,
Let me be the one to hold you...
[Chorus:]
I'm the one who wants to be with you.
Deep inside I hope you feel it too.
Waited on a line of greens and blues
Just to be the next to be with you.
Why be alone, when we can be together, baby?
You can make my life worthwhile,
And I can make you start to smile...
[Chorus: 2x]
I'm the one who wants to be with you.
Deep inside I hope you feel it too.
Waited on a line of greens and blues
Just to be the next to be with you.
