Alaska

Et des chiens de traîneaux
Je vis dans le Grand Nord
Seul avec mon banjo
Je coupe du bois
Avec ma vieille scie
Et le soir je fume
Et je bois du whisky
Et c'est comme ça
Que passent mes jours
Et ce sera comme ça
À jamais pour toujours
Un vieux rocking-chair
Du Jack et du tabac
Ça fait passer l'hiver
Chez nous en Alaska
Dans ma vieille cabane
Au fond de la forêt
Je me pèle la couenne
Le fond de l'air est frais
Quand je m'ennuie un peu
Comme j'ai pas la télé
Alors je fais du feu
Et je l'regarde brûler
Et je m'ennuie
Et c'est comme ça
Que passent mes jours
Et ce sera comme ça
À jamais pour toujours
Mon vieux grand-père
Vivait déjà comme ça
C'est toujours l'hiver
Chez nous en Alaska
C'est le bout du monde
Où la terre est blanche
La forêt profonde
Et le ciel immense
C'est le pays
Où j'ai fait ma naissance
Et ce sera celui
Où je f'rai ma finissance
The song "Alaska" by Eric Toulis portrays the simple and isolated life of a man living in the wilderness of Alaska. Surrounded by beavers and sled dogs, the singer spends his days cutting wood with an old saw and playing his banjo. During the evenings, he enjoys smoking and drinking whiskey in his rocking chair. The monotony of his life is interrupted only by the occasional fire he builds to watch burn. The lyrics evoke a sense of resignation to this lifestyle, suggesting that this is how he will spend the rest of his days.
The chorus repeats the phrase "Et c'est comme ça que passent mes jours, et ce sera comme ça à jamais pour toujours," which translates to "And that's how my days pass, and that's how it will be forever and always." The singer acknowledges that his grandfather lived similarly and that Alaska will be where he was born and where he will die.
The song's imagery creates a picture of desolate and harsh surroundings that are both beautiful and unforgiving. The listener gets a sense of the singer's loneliness and the peace he finds in his solitude. Overall, "Alaska" is a contemplative and melancholic song that captures the essence of life in remote regions.
