Fearless
Erika Henningsen Original Broadway Cast of Mean Girls Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wait, who is my boss
Now that Regina is gone

I'll wear what I want
Which is what I have on
And a vest
That's how it feels
To be free, free

I thought you would cave
But you stood up to her
You were strong, you were brave
No, you knew what you were
You were fetch
So fetch, and we're free
Free

You were so fearless woah-oh
You didn't cry or hide or throw up
So fearless, woah-oh
No emotional trauma
Just fearless Woah-oh

Well, some people need to grow up
Woah, fearless

Got no time for drama
So go cry to mama
From now on I'mma be

Fearless woah-oh
Fearless woah-oh
Fearless woah-oh
Fearless
Fearless woah-oh
Fearless woah-oh
Fearless woah-oh
Fearless

A girl's got to do
What a girl's got to do
I did it for me, sure
But really for you
So that you can live fearlessly too
Imagine fearless woah-oh

Imagine stronger, better bolder
And fearless woah-oh
Brush that dirt off your shoulder

Imagine just dancing like no one was there
Everyone staring, but you do not care

Not hunching your shoulders to make yourself small

To walk right down
The middle of the hall
Not small
Not small
Once more

Fearless
Fearless
Fearless

Fearless
Fearless
Fearless
We are fearless

Regina, I'm sorry this had to happen

It's fine for you
New hair, new skirt
It's fine
'Till someone gets hurt (ahhh)

'Till someone gets hurt

Overall Meaning

In the song Fearless, from the hit Broadway musical "Mean Girls", the character of Cady reflects on her newfound sense of freedom now that Regina, the mean queen bee of their high school, is gone. She revels in being able to wear whatever she wants and not having someone boss her around. She acknowledges that it was Gretchen who stood up to Regina and helped bring her down, paving the way for Cady's newfound freedom. Cady expresses her desire to live a life free of drama and emotional trauma, and encourages others to do the same. She calls on listeners to imagine a life where they are fearless, strong, and bold, and where they can walk through the halls of their high school with their head held high, unafraid of anyone or anything.

The song's message is one of empowerment and self-confidence. It encourages listeners to be themselves and to live their lives without fear or shame. It also acknowledges the role that support and friendship play in helping people achieve this kind of self-assurance. The upbeat, poppy melody and catchy chorus make it a crowd-pleaser, while the lyrics offer a deeper message of empowerment and self-acceptance.

Poor Ashley Park having to wear a tank top

@claddagh1826

yeah i do not understand why she took the jacket off, because it certainly did not make a difference to the scene. like, did the producers ask her to??

@andersoncheung9208

That was one cold morning in NYC. Hopefully her blood was pumping from the dance!

@connornickerson7409

it’s part of the number in the show, so they just kept it

@heatherchandler8019

Im sure it's to resemble the rule from the movie, "You can only wear a tank top once a Month."

@wynonaa.980

kkj nkwksnsj jeubeej
i thought it was only once a week?

casually waiting for Karen's ribbon dance...

@kwirkykins4346

I’m pretty sure Kate Rockwell hurt her leg before this so they had to cut it for her sake (as much as i would have loved to see it too). you can kind of tell that she’s not pushing herself more than she has to for the dances. she still did an amazing job despite the injury and the freakishly cold weather! like damn, that’s talent and commitment right there

@autumnde-morette8883

Kwillz the Kwirky she literally walks slowly in a circle in the ribbon dance. It will have just been cut for time, as obviously, if she can do this with her leg, she obviously could have done the ribbon dance

@strawberrylemonadesorbet2886

Love the choreography! and we stan Ashley Park
