Erika de Casier was born in Portugal to a Belgian mother, and a Cape Verdean father. She attended Catholic school as a child, and at the age of eight, she and her family moved to Aarhus, Denmark. She has stated that she was a target of bullying due to her and her brother being the only black students at her school. She spent time painting throughout her adolescence. At age 16, she spent a year living with a host family in the United States. Upon returning to Denmark, she joined her school's choir and band and began producing her own beats. After graduating from school, she moved to Copenhagen. Before performing as a solo artist, she worked at a kindergarten.
Erika de Casier initially made her mark as an ally of the Regelbau collective (home to Danish house acts DJ Sports, C.K and Central). The debut album Essentials was written and released through her own Independent Jeep label in 2019. Co-produced by de Casier and Natal Zeks (aka El Trick), the LP graced the 'Best of the year' lists at Mixmag, Gorilla vs. Bear, FACT, Dummy, and Crack Magazine. The slow-burn success story of the album gained the attention of British label 4AD, which signed de Casier in 2020, and released the sophomore 'Sensational' on the 21st of May 2021. The singer, songwriter and producer went to perform at some of the biggest festivals in the world; as well and writing for pop-stars (NewJeans), and lending her voice to hyped dance-tracks (Mura Masa, Shygirl).
Returning with Zeks, the co-producer of Essentials and Sensational, de Casier added to the fold collaborators; Jonathan Jull Ludvigsen, Carl Emil Johansen, Niels Kirk, Christian Rhode Lindinger, Nick León, Kirsten Nyhus Janssen and Tobias Sachse; adding live drums, synths, guitar, bass to the third album Still released on 21st February 2024.

I wrote you twice last night
Wish that I could rewind
Take back whatever I said
But I can't do that
Thought it was going so well
Now I don't even know
Best that I lay low
I wrote you twice last night
Wish that I could rewind
Take back whatever I said
But I can't do that
Thought it was going so well
Now I don't even know
Said you did this and that
Best that I lay low
I don't mean to cause any drama (drama)
It's just somehow it always gets me
Everybody says I'm so reasonable
But when I'm down that road
It's sensational
I wrote you twice last night
Wish that I could rewind
Take back whatever I said
But I can't do that
Thought it was going so well
Now I don't even know
Said you did this and that
Best that I lay low
I didn't mean to cause a scene
When I told you you should leave
In front of your friends
So embarrassing
I did my best, I swear I did
Even called you up
To tell you I was wrong
You say I'm always looking for
Excuses not to get along
But I don't mean to cause any drama
It's just somehow it always gets me
Everybody says I'm so reasonable
But when I'm down that road
It's sensational
I wrote you twice last night
Wish that I could rewind
Take back whatever I said
But I can't do that
Thought it was going so well
Now I don't even know
Said you did this and that
Best that I lay low
You want drama?
I'll give you a reality show
Night mode camera
Show you more and more
You say it's ridiculous
Yeah, baby, I feel ya
But what I gotta do to make you see
It's not always like this
It's not me, not really
I don't mean to cause any drama
It's just somehow it always gets me
Everybody says I'm so reasonable
But when I'm down that road
It's sensational
I wrote you twice last night
Wish that I could rewind
Take back whatever I said
But I can't do that
Thought it was going so well
Now I don't even know
Said you did this and that
Best that I lay low
The song "Drama" by Danish singer Erika de Casier, is a relatable confession of someone who regrets their actions leading to drama in a relationship. The song opens with the artist admitting she wrote to her partner twice the previous night, wishing she could retract what she'd said. However, she's unable to rewind time and take back her words, hence her decision to lay low. The artist had thought the relationship had been going well, but now she's unsure. She mentions being accused of being reasonable by everyone, but when she's down that path of drama, it tends to be sensational.
The second verse sees the artist recounting an embarrassing scene she caused when she made her partner leave in front of their friends. She confesses to have called him later to admit fault, but the partner accuses her of always looking for excuses not to get along. In the chorus, Erika repeats her apologies for causing drama intending to clear her name while clarifying that drama somehow always finds her. The bridge shows a desperate Erika, who's ready to go the extra mile to show her partner it's not always like that. She would give him a full reality show if that's what it takes to make him see.
In conclusion, "Drama" is a song about regret, self-reproach, and a desire to mend a relationship that's bound to break because of drama.
