McCarley currently calls Nashville home, but she cut her musical teeth in San Diego, where she’d moved after college to pursue a life that did not feature music at its center. It was during this bout that McCarley met producer/writer/keyboardist Jamie Kenney (the rare partner she felt 100 percent comfortable with), and the two began honing the songs that would make up Love, Save the Empty.
During 2008, she was part of the "Hotel Café Tour" playing across the United States, and also performed at the 2008 SxSW festival. She was also part of the "Ten Out of Tenn" tour in Winter 2008/2009. Erin spent 2009 on the road with various musicians including Brett Dennen, James Morrison, Paolo Nutini and Mat Kearney.
In 2008, McCarley traveled the annual SXSW Music Festival where she was discovered by her label Universal Republic Records. Love, Save the Empty, was released digitally on December 30, 2008 via iTunes debuting #86 on the Billboard Top 200 Album.Chart. A physical album followed on January 6, 2009. The first single from the album, "Pony (It's OK)" was the iTunes Single of the Week for the first week of 2009.

No wishing well could ever bring you.
Celebrate my smile.
You color my depressed mood from gray to the most brilliant blue
Shape every tear into a candy sky.
Take me home to your secret
Take me home
I don't wanna hold on because you're sticky,
You're sticky sweet on me.
I don't wanna hold on cause I'm inspired by your
Off-beat dreams.
They make me never forget how it feels to be that fortunate somewhat
I don't wanna,
I don't wanna,
No, I don't wanna hold on.
You're getting to me
Mm mm mm
This music in my head of heart-shaped melodies in red.
If this is just the start I cant wait to hear the end.
The Hours come and go
As we wait wrapped up tight in your silver glow
I've never been this content to be
Take me home to your secret.
Take me home
To your white sanctuary
I don't wanna hold off
Because you're sticky
You're sticky sweet on me.
I don't wanna hold off
Because I'm inspired by your off beat dreams
You make me never forget how it feels to be that fortunate somewhat
I don't wanna
I don't wanna
I don't wanna hold off
You're getting to me
Can you hear
The angels singing?
While you lay your hands on me
Yeah, Can you feel the bells a ringing?
Well I surrender all of me (Oh all of me)
I don't wanna hold off because you're sticky,
You're sticky sweet on me
I don't wanna hold off
Because I'm inspired by your off-beat dreams.
You make me never forget how it feels to be that fortunate somewhat
I don't wanna
No I don't wanna
I don't wanna hold off
You're getting to me
I don't wanna
No I don't wanna
I don't wanna
I don't wanna hold off you're getting to me
I don't wanna hold off you're sticky sweet.
The lyrics in Erin McCarley's song "Sticky-Sweet" speak to the allure of someone who is both sweet and irresistible. The song opens with the line "Here's to who you ought to be, no wishing well could ever bring you," suggesting that this person is already everything that they need to be, and no amount of hoping or wishing could make them any better. The singer then goes on to celebrate the joy that this person brings, saying "You color my depressed mood from gray to the most brilliant blue, shape every tear into a candy sky," implying that this person has a transformative effect on them.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "I don't wanna hold off because you're sticky, you're sticky sweet on me," indicating that the person in question is almost impossible to resist. The singer acknowledges that this person's off-beat dreams and infectious energy inspire them, and that being around them makes them feel fortunate. The second verse continues in a similar vein, with the singer marveling at the way this person makes them feel ("I've never been this content to be"), before returning to the chorus one last time.
Overall, the lyrics in "Sticky-Sweet" celebrate the power of attraction and the impact that one person can have on another. The singer is drawn to someone who is already complete and unimprovable, but whose magnetic energy and infectious spirit sweeps them up nonetheless.
