You can suck out of a fruit
And the color changes fast
When an apple's cut in half
Every ladder ends somewhere
Better time it, steps with care
I'll be the one who waits too long
Choose the life you want to live
Give the love you want to give
Take the moment when it comes
Let it lead you, let it run
Feel the moisture in the air
Feel her fingers through your hair
Don't be shy when asking to
Be that way, you always were meant to
You say that life is long
You took the words
Out of my mind
Life is long, and the world is small
Our paths will cross some other time
Given shelter, blessed by rain
To our common unknown aim
Through the north side of the town
To the south where we laid down
Hundred floodlights but no stars
Without people, without cars
Where I ask you without sound
Where you answer without words
Do them all as written down
When you close your eyes you find
You can prophesize the steps
You can visualize the maps
If you act upon it when
There's no trace of doubt within
When your heart is freshly stung
You cannot fail, you cannot act wrong
You say that life is long
You took the words
Out of my mind
Life is long, and the world is small
Our paths will cross some other time
You say that life is long
You took the words
Out of my mind
Life is long, and the world is small
Our paths will cross some other time
The lyrics of Erlend Øye's "Garota" speak about the fleeting nature of life and how one must seize the moment when they come. The metaphors of an apple being cut in half and a ladder ending somewhere signify that there is only so much one can take before it is too late. The song is about taking charge of one's life and living it to the fullest without hesitation. Øye encourages the listener to choose the life they want to lead and love they want to give. He also urges the listener to let the moment lead them and not be afraid to be themselves.
The lyrics further talk about the importance of enjoying the little things in life like feeling the moisture in the air, experiencing the sensation of fingers running through one's hair, and not being afraid to show one's true self. The line "you always were meant to" implies that it is one's destiny to be authentic and embrace one's identity fully. The chorus repeats the line "life is long, and the world is small" which highlights the inevitability of paths crossing again.
Overall, the song is about living life to the fullest and being true to oneself, not being afraid to take risks and to seize the moment before it's gone.

There is only so much juice
There are limits to what can be obtained
You can suck out of a fruit
The resources will eventually run out
And the color changes fast
Things can change in an instant
When an apple's cut in half
Once something is divided, it's different
Every ladder ends somewhere
No journey goes on indefinitely
Better time it, steps with care
Be strategic and cautious in your pursuits
I'll be the one who waits too long
I tend to hesitate too much
Turns around and finds it's gone
And then I miss my chance
Choose the life you want to live
You have control over your destiny
Give the love you want to give
Express your affection freely
Take the moment when it comes
Seize opportunities as they arise
Let it lead you, let it run
Don't resist the flow of life
Feel the moisture in the air
Be mindful of your surroundings
Feel her fingers through your hair
Be present in romantic moments
Don't be shy when asking to
Overcome your reservations and
Be that way, you always were meant to
Embrace the person you were born to be
You say that life is long
You believe that there is ample time
You took the words
You articulated my thoughts
Out of my mind
Better than I could myself
Life is long, and the world is small
There's plenty of opportunity, but
Our paths will cross some other time
Nothing is guaranteed, so cherish moments
Given shelter, blessed by rain
The environment can provide and sustain us
To our common unknown aim
We all move towards a shared but unclear goal
Through the north side of the town
Journeying through different areas
To the south where we laid down
And relaxing in others
Hundred floodlights but no stars
Sometimes material abundance can outweigh beauty
Without people, without cars
But solitude can also be valuable
Where I ask you without sound
Nonverbal communication is powerful
Where you answer without words
And often more honest
Do them all as written down
Follow instructions as they are given
When you close your eyes you find
You can tap into your intuition and imagination
You can prophesize the steps
And envision your future actions
You can visualize the maps
And plot your route
If you act upon it when
But it's important to implement
There's no trace of doubt within
And be confident in your decision-making
When your heart is freshly stung
Take risks when emotions are heightened
You cannot fail, you cannot act wrong
And trust that you'll make the right move

When you close your eyes you're fine
You can prophesize the steps
You can visualize the maps
