The band was formed by members of "By Blood and Iron," a Birmingham local band, and the ex-guitarist of "Broadcast the Nightmare," Alan Rigdon. They entered the Studio in late 2009 for their self titled EP. With Guitarists Jesse Cash and Alan Rigdon constantly writing material, they entered the studio again in July of 2010 for their second release, "Andromeda". Andromeda was released in December of 2010.
Soon after the release of "Andromeda," the band was back at 456 Recordings with Brian Hood in Nashville, TN to record their debut album. On November 29th, 2011, Erra released their debut album "Impulse."
In 2012, the band parted ways with their bassist Adam Hicks, who left to finish college. Sean Price joined Erra as the new bassist as they began recording another studio album in 2013. Erra's sophomore album, "Augment" was released on October 29th, 2013.
In 2014, Alan Rigdon, one of the guitarists, and Garrison Lee, the unclean vocalist, both left the band under separate circumstances. Ian Eubanks, a friend of the band, filled the vocalist position; he had filled in for Garrison on tour in the past.
In late May of 2014, the band began teasing new material they had been writing. Just over 5 months later, on November 10th, 2014, Erra released a 5 song EP through Sumerian Records titled "Moments of Clarity." Shortly after the release of the EP, Erra began writing a new album to follow up their 2013 release "Augment."
In 2016 vocalist J.T Cavey (ex-Texas In July) joined the band to replace Ian Eubanks' position. Cavey and the band entered the studio and wrote and released their third studio album Drift. The album reached #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. The band toured on the Sumerian 10-year tour, along with Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, After the Burial and Bad Omens.

Flowing through our fingertips
Spirits of our ancestors guiding our hands
Supernatural entities benevolent and fused with nature
Blessing our minds with endearing wisdom and the passion of warriors
A lone stranger will come to save us
A brewing tempest in the skin of a man
Brace for stainless steel
We willing martyrs will die to grant our people their better days
Wolves behind the masks
Provoke conflict on our soil
Wolves behind the masks
The cowards descend upon the weak
Wolves behind the masks
Walking in our brother's skins
Calling our home their nation
Legendary malevolent creatures seeking souls to devour
Shaping shifting monstrosities, grinding their teeth, fuck
Warrior bloodlines flow through me
Brace for stainless steel
Rendered useless by hand carven passion of the arrowwood
An omnipotent stranger appears
And pauses battle with thunder in his words
I am the silence in piercing sound
Keep me close to you now
I am the shadow that tames the moon and paints the earth
When you feel the heat of that crushing moment
Stand by me and never feel alone
I am the silence in piercing sound
I am the night
Breaking the walls that barricade our passion, crushing fear
I am the shadow that blackens the moon
A lone stranger has come to save us
A brewing tempest in the skin of a man
The brave warrior cast out the darkness
His words of thunder now calm as the wind
I am the silence in piercing sound
Keep me close to you now
I am the shadow that tames the moon and paints the earth
When you feel the heat of that crushing moment
Stand by me and never feel alone
I am the silence in piercing sound
I am the night
Wolves behind the masks
Provoke conflict on our soil
Wolves behind the masks
The cowards descend upon the weak
Wolves behind the masks
Walking in our brothers' skins
Calling our home their nation
Break the walls
Breaking the walls that barricade our passion, crushing fear
The lyrics of Erra's song Warrior delve into themes of ancestral spirits, supernatural entities, and the passion of warriors. The first stanza envisions a world where the spirits of ancestors guide individuals, blessing their minds with wisdom and the courage to fight as warriors. It speaks of a lone stranger who will come to save the people in battle, while handcrafted arrowheads would render stainless steel useless. The second verse describes wolves that move behind masks and call another nation their home, provoking conflict and attacking the weak. The song’s final part talks about breaking the walls of fear that barricade warriors' passion and the freezing moment before taking action during a battle. The “omnipotent stranger” calls upon individuals to stand close to them, using the analogy of the silent night that tames the moon and paint the earth. The song’s lyrics end with a call to action to break down these walls and call out those who hide behind masks and threaten the peace.
