Booty
Erykah Badu Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Your booty might be bigger
But I still can pull your nigga
But I don't want him
Ya got sugar on your pita
But ya nigga thinks I'm sweeter
But I don't want him
Ya know the whole encyclopedia
But ya nigga thinks I'm deeper
But I don't want him
Got a whole lot a junk off in ya trunk
But ya nigga think I'm live and I keep him crunk, I don't want him

Hey, hey, hey
Uh, I don't want him cause of what he doin' to you (ooh)
And you don't need him
'Cause he ain't ready (za da bump bum)
(See) see I don't want him, if he ain't made no arrangement with you (ooh)
I hope you would've done, the same, thing, for me too (ooh)

Your kisses might be wetter
But your nigga likes mine better
But I don't want him
You got the beans and rice and the hot hoecakes
But ya nigga still over here in my plate
I don't want him
Ya got a PHD, Magna Cum Laude
But ya nigga love me with a GED
I don't want him
You the one with all the money
And he knows my money's funny
But I don't want him

Hey, hey, hey
I don't want him
'Cause of what he's done to you (ooh)
You don't need him
'Cause he ain't ready (za da bump bum)
See I don't want him, if he ain't made no arrangement with you (ooh)
You don't need him, 'cause the boy ain't ready (ooh)

Got ya pad all decked out fa sho'
But ya niggas at my door, though
But I don't want him
Well you can do the butterfly and the tootsie roll
But ya nigga straight sprung off the way I stroll
I don't want him (I don't want him, I don't want him, I don't want him)
Ya know the whole 120 and a plus degree
But you can't keep ya guy up off his knees
I don't want him
Got a nine to five and a six to ten
But ya nigga told me not to work again
I don't want him

Hey, hey, hey
See I don't want him
'Cause of what he doin' to you (ooh)
And you don't need him
'Cause he ain't ready (za da bump bum)
See I don't want him
If he ain't made no arrangement with you (ooh)
I hope you would've done, the same, thing, for me too (ooh), come one, come on

Overall Meaning

In "Booty," Erykah Badu dismisses advances from a man who is in a relationship with someone else. She acknowledges that the woman's body may be more appealing than hers but emphasizes that she's not interested in stealing the man away. Badu says that she doesn't want the man because of what he's doing to his partner and that the woman doesn't need him because he's not ready for a committed relationship. In each verse, Badu contrasts herself to the woman, listing the things that the woman has, but then pointing out that the man still wants her. The chorus repeats that she doesn't want the man if he hasn't made an arrangement with his partner and that Badu would hope the woman would do the same for her if in a similar situation.

The lyrics are a commentary on the dynamics of relationships and how women can often pit themselves against each other over men. Badu is rejecting the idea that women need to fight or compete for a man's affection. She is also highlighting the importance of respecting other people's relationships and not getting involved with someone who is already committed. The song could also be interpreted as a reminder to men that women prioritize integrity and loyalty over physical appearance.
