Established in 2002, ESITU (pronounced eh-SEE-too) exploded onto the Seattle music scene with a musical style that can be described only as something different combined with comforting familiarity. It has been widely stated by fans that you don’t “get” ESITU until the third listen. Their current body of work consists of two full length albums, a three song EP, and a two disc DVD/CD box set.
The fruits of their labor are self-evident. Their fan base is world wide. With every live show and musical endeavor it grows in volume and potency. Their extensive and impressive resume of live performances and local shows is unrivalled. From packed clubs full of eager and devoted fans, online communities and interactive forums, and the unparalleled importance of word-of-mouth promotion that only comes from the genuine love and devotion of true fans, ESITU’s stimulating influence has permeated the veins of Seattle’s underground rock scene.
Their debut full-length album Psychometry, released in 2004, gave the public its first taste of the professionalism and artistic direction of ESITU. 2006 saw the release of two new works: ESITU: The Last Three EP and a live DVD/CD two disc set entitled ESITU: Live at Studio Seven. It was 2010 that gave birth to ESITU’s most ambitious, elaborate and anticipated artistic creation to date – their second full length album Shadowlight. A third full length album is tentatively slated to be released in December 2011.
ESITU is here to elevate art in the public consciousness and support art in all forms. In their minds art is dwindling in the general public’s consciousness – and its salvation is crucial to the continued positive growth of humanity. In an effort to promote art and creativity in the community, ESITU has incorporated local non-musical artists into their live shows. Take note: it’s not just through music that ESITU is spreading artistic vision.
ESITU also have always worked hard to challenge the expectations of their listeners. Through relentless toil and tireless promotion, they have labored with the force, passion and dedication required to sanction change. ESITU plays ‘progressive’ rock for a reason. Progress and evolution is essential to survival. Stagnation is death. Every element that encapsulates the essence and integrity of ESITU is fueled by the idea of transformation, progression, inclusiveness and above all – transcendence.
Echo
Esitu Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of Esitu's song Echo talk about a complex and tumultuous relationship with someone who is unattainable and difficult to understand. The artist starts with a desire to move on and leave the games and confusion behind, but they appear to be unable to let go completely. There is a sense of frozenness and being trapped underwater, weighed down by emotion and uncertainty. The lines "I'm tired of all the games you play. I've seen so many of your faces. I can't figure you out and I'm not feeling satisfied" indicate frustration with the situation.
As the song progresses, the artist seems to oscillate between wanting to possess the object of their desire and being angry and resentful towards them. The use of the phrase "broken, fallen angel of light" may suggest that the person they are addressing is both beautiful and damaged, but also somewhat manipulative or flawed. The line "I could destroy your suffering" shows a desire for control and perhaps even revenge. The repetition of the phrase "watch you angel" at the end of the song is ambiguous but suggests that the artist has finally let go and is able to observe the situation from a distance.
Overall, the lyrics of Echo are emotionally charged and express a range of conflicting feelings. The artist seems torn between a desire to move on and a compulsion to hold on to something that is ultimately destructive. The repeated references to beauty and divinity suggest that the object of their desire is something almost otherworldly, someone who is both awe-inspiring and unattainable.
