quando s'ora foi sa via,
que non lh'estvess'eu triste,
e cedo se tornaria,
e soo maravilhada
por que foi esta tardada
Disse-mi a mi meu amigo,
que non lh'estevess'eu triste
e tarda e non mi ven,
e soo maravilhada
por que foi esta tardada
Que non lh'estevess'eu triste,
e cedo se tornaria,
e pesa-mi do que tarda,
sabe-o Santa Maria,
e soo maravilhada
por que foi esta tardada
Que non lh'estevess'eu triste,
e tarda e non mi ven.
E pero non é por cousa
que m'el non queira gran ben,
e soo maravilhada
por que foi esta tardada
The lyrics to Estampie's song "Disse Mi" are sung in the Galician-Portuguese language and speak about the feelings of a person waiting for a loved one. The song is about a conversation between two friends, where one is asking the other for advice on how to deal with their impatience and sadness over the delay in meeting their loved one. The singer is concerned about being impatient and sad and wants to know how to cope with these feelings. The advice given is that the sadness will pass, and the meeting will happen soon, so they should not be too worried about it.
The use of the word "maravilhada" in the lyrics can be interpreted in different ways. It can mean "amazed" or "wonder-struck," but it can also be translated as "marveled," referring to the singer's feeling of astonishment and excitement about the prospect of finally meeting their loved one. The use of the phrase "sabe-o Santa Maria" (knows it Holy Mary) suggests that the singer is appealing to a higher power for help in coping with their feelings.
The song is a traditional Galician-Portuguese cantiga de amigo, a form of lyric poetry and song that originated in the northwest corner of the Iberian Peninsula. The cantigas de amigo were typically composed and performed by women and focused on female experiences, such as love, longing, and separation. The upbeat rhythm and melody of the song reflect the singer's anticipation and excitement about the meeting, despite their initial worries and doubts.
