Esteban Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow,
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow,
But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying,
If I am dead, as dead I well may be,
You'll come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Ave there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!
The most notable aspect of Esteban's version "Danny Boy" is the passionate instrumental performance, which adds a different layer of emotion to the song. The lyrics themselves are also moving and melancholic. The song appears to be written from the perspective of a person saying goodbye to their loved one, whom they may never see again. The reference to "pipes" suggests that the song is of Irish origin, and the imagery of "Glen to glen" and "mountain side" evoke a sense of open spaces and natural beauty.
As the song progresses, the tone becomes increasingly mournful, with references to "all the roses falling" and the need for the loved one to "come and find the place where I am lying" if the singer has passed away. There is a sense of hope, however, as the singer asks their loved one to "come ye back when summer's in the meadow," suggesting that there is a possibility they may reunite at some point.
Overall, Esteban's interpretation of "Danny Boy" is a heartfelt and emotional tribute to a much-loved song.

Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
Oh, Danny boy, can't you hear the music of the pipes in the distance?
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The sound echoes through the valleys, and down the mountainside.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
The summer season is over, and the roses have withered away.
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.
You must leave me to go on with your life.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
But please do return, when everything is in full bloom.
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow,
Or when everything is quiet and the valley is blanketed with snow.
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow,
Don't worry, I'll be here for you no matter what the circumstance.
Oh, Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so!
Oh, Danny boy, I love you so deeply!
But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying,
But when you do return, you will find that the flowers have faded away.
If I am dead, as dead I well may be,
I may not be alive anymore by the time you come back.
You'll come and find the place where I am lying,
But you will find the place where I have been laid to rest.
And kneel and say an Ave there for me.
And you will kneel and say a prayer over my resting place.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And I may hear your soft footsteps as you walk above me.
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
And the very thought of you being there will bring warmth and sweetness to my grave.
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,
For you will bend over and express your love for me.
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!
And I will rest in peace, knowing that you will one day come to me.
