Grey Skies
Eternal Storm Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Winds blowing strong bring an echo of sorrow
As one lonely figure wanders the land

Lost in himself, hatred became his only friend
Fog was their shelter on their road to nowhere

Years of roaming beneath grey skies
Have made him forgotten his name, all his life

Far in the distance a mountain draws his gaze
"My steps will lead me there, but it's so far…"

"So…this landscape will be my tomb…"-"Never"
"How long time will I have to feed this devil in me?"
"It seems I've betrayed myself
Bowed down to fear and hate"

Blinded by obsessions, consumed by a spiral
Erasing the beauty he once left behind

There in the horizon the mountain calls his name
"It might be the time to awake, I should try…"

"So…this landscape will be my tomb…"-"Never"
"How long time will I have to feed this devil in me?"
"It seems I've betrayed myself
Bowed down to fear and hate"

Now, as the snow starts to fall he is closing his eyes
Calmed down, that soft caress brings him memories
Of who he once was
Buried in the white lays his old clothes which tied
Down his soul

Run! Break away!
Your tempest is agonizing
Climb! One more breath and climb!
The summit is waiting
Run! Break away!
Your tempest is agonizing
Climb! One more breath and climb!
The summit now waits for you

When the sun is down he looks up to the sky
The stars that shine bring him the peace of mind
The silence sings; his soul now is unchained
The wind now tells: "In harmony is the night"

The wind now tells: "In harmony is the night"
The wind now tells: "In harmony is the night"

Overall Meaning

The song Grey Skies by Eternal Storm is a reflection of an individual's journey through the dark and tumultuous depths of his own psyche, as he tries to navigate his way back to the light. The lyrics paint a picture of a man who finds himself lost, consumed by his own hatred and isolation as he wanders aimlessly through a barren landscape made even more oppressive by the grey skies above. The winds blow fiercely, echoing his inner sorrow, and as he traverses this desolate land, he becomes more and more detached from himself until he forgets even his own name.

As he meanders on his journey of self-destruction, a mountain looms in the distance, a beacon of hope that draws him closer. Yet, even as he yearns to reach it, he feels overwhelmed by the magnitude of the task before him, and he wonders if he will ever be able to overcome the devil inside. He questions himself, asking how long he must feed this monster within and whether he has betrayed himself by giving in to his fear and hate. Nevertheless, he presses on, hoping that the mountain will be the key to his redemption.

Finally, he reaches the summit and as the snow begins to fall around him, he lets go of his old self, burying his old clothes beneath him. He ruminates on who he once was, how he got to where he is now, and how he can move forward from this point. For a moment, he is at peace, washed clean by the snow and the soft caress of the wind around him. As night falls, he looks up to the sky, and the stars bring him comfort as the wind whispers, "In harmony is the night".
