Juliet
Ethan Hawke Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She waits in darkened corners
You'll never find her there
Because her hair is undefined
I call this color Juliet
Juliet
She's cuttin' diamonds with her smile
She'll leave your life in fragments
My one true Juliet
But you will thank her for the privilege of her company
As you step from the embankment
She's watchin' from the trees
Juliet
She'll defile your sacred places
She'll leave 'em bare
She wears a thousand faces
I don't care
Juliet
You'll be grateful for the wallow when the river takes you
Ever thankful to have offered her amusement
Juliet
The song "Juliet" by Ethan Hawke is a haunting and enigmatic composition about a woman who is mysterious and elusive. The first verse paints a picture of Juliet waiting in dark corners where nobody can find her. Ethan sings that her hair is undefined and he calls the color of her hair "Juliet." The second verse contrasts her beauty with her deceitful nature. She cuts diamonds with her smile, but at the same time will leave your life in fragments. Ethan refers to her as his one true Juliet. In the final verse, Ethan remains indifferent to what Juliet does to him or to his sacred places. He expects the worst from her and is prepared for it. He is grateful for even the slightest amusement that she offers.
The song's lyrics seem to be portraying Juliet as a femme fatale or a female seducer, who has a captivating yet lethal charm. She defiles sacred places, wears a thousand faces, and will leave your life in ruins. However, she is also a captivating presence that can offer pleasure, even at the cost of pain. The lyrics portray the singer as someone who is futilely drawn to her, who expects no good and has resigned himself to see her as she is.

Hawke looks like Nick Nolte’s mug shot. He’s a washed up alcoholic, with a bad ticker, and a lot of baggage. Nevertheless, she wants him to sire her baby. Probably because he has nice teeth. Especially the lateral incisors. I bet dentists paid for this movie.

Watched it with boxxy software. Superficially satirical, soulful romantic comedy about life's second chances.

@Eternelspotlessmind yes exactly. With all of these superheros movies, I think Juliet, Naked successfully brought us a humble drama movie with comedy in it.
