Nature Boy
Etta Jones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

NATURE BOY
There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he
And then one day
A magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things
Fools and kings
This he said to me
"The greatest thing you′ll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return"

"The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return"

Beautiful , sounds so jazzy with a noticeable hint of island calipso and spanish vibes. ALL HAILS FROM THE MIDDLE EAST.

Muitos gravaram essa belíssima música,Nature Boy, mas essa música ninguém canta como Nat King Cole!!

@maxwellfan55

The chords of this song ARE samba so this works, I like it, Etta treats it accordingly, and rather well.

Wow..this is stunning.

@GPerruciani

"Somewhere betrween Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Washington," was how the bandleader Earl Hines described his singer Etta Jones. He could have said that she was somewhere between Billie Holiday and Ella Johnson as well, and yet, paradoxically, Etta Jones's style was unique.

Bringing the learning to the beat.

@caponsacchi

I love Etta Jones (not James), esp. during her "Don't Go to Strangers" period (with Gene Ammons)s and here? don't know the alto player). Later, with Houston Person, she developed habits, devices, that sounded more raw than her early recordings for Prestige. I think of a Samba as much faster (like "Brazil"), close to many disco tempos. This rhythm is closer to a rhumba or mambo.
